Bonneville Launches Seattle News/Blog Site
January 30, 2008

Leveraging the power of the internet for broadcast radio’s use is something that the industry has been fighting for years. While the majority of commercial radio seemingly fears what the internet means to its way of life, a select few are finding ways to integrate on-air content with online content.
One such example is Bonneville’s Seattle cluster, which has merged the sites of News/Talk 710 KIRO, Talk 770 KTTH, and Classic Hits 97.3 KBSG into one site located at MyNorthwest.com. MyNorthwest has built a blog network out of the local on-air hosts of the stations, but the best feature may be the integration of KIRO’s on-air news reports into local headlines. They are also making archives of their talk shows available in MP3 form. It’s great to see a radio station (or in this case group of stations) make their content available so freely.
Unfortunately, It looks as though there may be a financial restructuring at the stations to bring the increased web staff onboard, as a number of staffers at KIRO were laid-off today.
Rock 100.5 Atlanta Debuts
January 28, 2008

After stunting all weekend with “Atlanta’s Radio Idol”, the second shoe in the 99.7/100.5 frequency swap dropped this morning at 6:00am with the debut of The Regular Guys on “Rock 100.5“.
The Regular Guys, made up of Larry Wachs, Eric Von Haessler, “Southside” Steve Rickman and Tim Andrews had two tours of duty at crosstown 96.1 WKLS when it was known as “96 Rock”. The station, which later relaunched as “Project 9-6-1“, was partially responsible for the demise of 99X. The new “Rock 100.5″ looks to be positioning itself as a Mainstream Rocker. The rest of the station’s staff includes 99X holdovers Axel in Afternoon Drive, Matt C. & Lewis at night, and Matt Jones in the overnight and as host of the Sunday Morning acoustic “Organic X” program. Rob Roberts, PD at Q100, takes on the same duties at Rock 100.5.
The station’s first hour of music following the Regular Guys consisted of:

KYCY is now airing the morning newscast of sister KPIX-TV from 5 to 7am and syndicated money talker Rob Black from 7 to 9am. KYCY will continue as the flagship station of Oakland A’s baseball. Milwaukee Changes
January 28, 2008

A pair of changes coming to Milwaukee in the coming weeks as Salem sells off its pair of stations in the market.
Good Karma Broadcasting, owner of crosstown “ESPN Milwaukee“, which airs on 1510 WAUK during the day and then leases time on crosstown 1290 WMCS at night, has acquired 540 WRRD, which will become the fulltime home of the sports format.
Sister “105.3 The Fish” WFZH will keep its Christian AC format, however all local programming will soon be gone as the station has been sold to Educational Media Foundation for $8.05 Million. The station will flip to EMF’s national “K-Love” network on February 15.

Q100 Atlanta To Move to 99.7, 99X To Go Online
January 25, 2008

Update 1/25/08: The change is now complete. At 5:30am, 99X signed-off with Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” while relaunching as 99x.com. After simulcasting Q100’s “Bert Show” all week, the simulcast ended at 6:00am with 100.5 airing a loop of Beyonce singing “To The Left” and Bert Weiss letting listeners know that Q100 is now on 99.7. At 10:00, 100.5 began a stunt of eight possible formats for listeners to vote for. We expect the stunt to last at least through the weekend if not a little bit longer before the debut of Rock 100.5.
Original Entry 1/12/08: After more than 15 years as one of the most respected and influential Modern Rockers in the world, “99X” WNNX Atlanta will bid farewell next week. Sister CHR “Q100” will move from 100.5 to the much more powerful 99.7 frequency, while 99X will become a webcaster and HD2 subchannel.
Q100’s Bert Show will simulcast on both frequencies beginning on January 21, before a new format debuts on 100.5 the following Friday, January 25.
Q997Atlanta.com and AllTheHitsQ997.com were both registered on January 9 using DomainsByProxy.

“Rock 100.5″ Atlanta Coming
January 19, 2008
With Q100 moving to 99.7 this week, the speculation in Atlanta centers on what will end up on 100.5. Based on domain registrations made this week, we’re fully expecting “Rock 100.5″ to be the new station.
Cumulus has registered Rock1005.com, Rock100Atlanta.com, Rock100Atl.com, and 1005Rock.com along with .net variations of all. All of those domains are pointing to the site of sister “Warm 98” WRRM Cincinnati. This is a similar tactic to that done by sister WWFT Indianapolis a few weeks ago prior to its change to AC.
Crosstown 96.1 WKLS was known as “96 Rock” from 1974 until November 2006, when it relaunched as “Project 9-6-1“. This helps verify the rumors that former WKLS morning team “The Regular Guys” will do mornings on 100.5.
