Velocity Radio Management
January 1, 2009

The point of this post is to prove to Tony Renda, Jr. that the CMS makes all the difference in getting links on Google. We wish Velocity Radio Management the best of luck and hope we’re able to convince him to build his online presence in a more powerful form.
Remember The Source
January 12, 2009

When other sites claim that a station is about to change format based on a domain registration they are more than likely to be fed false information by the station that wants to fool its competition. Only the RadioInsight.com NetGnomes find the domains that the companies don’t want to be found.
We have some major upgrades coming to the site fairly soon so be sure to keep an eye out for those and thank you for your continued support of RadioInsight.com.

Indie 103.1 Los Angeles To Become “El Gato”
January 15, 2009

Update 1/17/09 3:00pm: As expected, KDLD/KDLE flipped to Regional Mexican as “El Gato” at midnight.
Update 2:30pm: At 10:00am PST, Indie 103.1 signed-off with Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”. The station is now stunting with a 5 song loop interspersed with announcements that the station is moving to an internet-only operation.
This is an important message for the Indie 103.1 Radio Audience -
Indie 103.1 will cease broadcasting over this frequency effective immediately. Because of changes in the radio industry and the way radio audiences are measured, stations in this market are being forced to play too much Britney, Puffy and alternative music that is neither new nor cutting edge. Due to these challenges, Indie 103.1 was recently faced with only one option — to play the corporate radio game.
We have decided not to play that game any longer. Rather than changing the sound, spirit, and soul of what has made Indie 103.1 great Indie 103.1 will bid farewell to the terrestrial airwaves and take an alternative course.
This could only be done on the Internet, a place where rules do not apply and where new music thrives; be it grunge, punk, or alternative – simply put, only the best music.
For those of you with a computer at home or at work, log on to www.indie1031.com and listen to the new Indie 103.1 – which is really the old Indie 103.1, not the version of Indie 103.1 we are removing from the broadcast airwaves.
We thank our listeners and advertisers for their support of the greatest radio station ever conceived, and look forward to continuing to deliver the famed Indie 103.1 music and spirit over the Internet to passionate music listeners around the world.
Original Entry 1/15/09 11:00am EST: The RadioInsight.com Net Gnomes have discovered that Entravision Communications is planning on changing formats at Los Angeles’ Modern Rocker “Indie 103.1” KDLD/KDLE.
A pair of domains: elgato1031.com and 1031elgato.com were registered to Entravision in late December. The former points to an Under Construction page for the new station, while the latter redirects to a sister station in Sacramento.
Last week Entravision shuffled formats at a bunch of their stations nationwide. Many switched from its Spanish CHR “Super Estrella” format to Adult Hits “Jose”. In El Paso, TX one of the stations, 94.7 KSYE debuted the new “El Gato” format. Billboard described the format as such:
Featuring contemporary regional Mexican music, “El Gato” debuted on KYSE El Paso (94.7 FM) on Jan. 6 and plays music by acts such as Horóscopos de Durango, Intocable and K-Paz de la Sierra.
It also includes Entravision show “Erazno y Chokolata” in the afternoons.
Indie 103.1 is one of the most critically acclaimed radio stations in America and it will be interesting to see if any of its elements are able to transition elsewhere.
“G-Rock” 106.3/106.5 Monmouth/Ocean Goes CHR
January 19, 2009

After 24 years as a Modern Rocker, Press Communications has flipped 106.3 WHTG-FM Eatontown, NJ and simulcast partner 106.5 WBBO Bass River Township, NJ to CHR as “Hit 106″. The station is using the satellite-fed “Hits Now!” format from Dial Global Networks.
For many years, WHTG as “FM 106.3″ was considered one of the most influential Alternative stations in the nation under then-PD Matt Pinfield. The station was sold to Press Communications in 2000 and relaunched as “G106.3″ and later “G-Rock Radio”.
Clear Channel Sports Changes
January 20, 2009

As part of its massive downsizing today, Clear Channel has announced major programming changes at a number of its large market sports stations as well as its Fox Sports Radio unit.
In Los Angeles, Sports By Brooks reports that 570 KLAC’s programming will be merged into the national Fox Sports Radio. FSR middayers (9am to 12pm Eastern) Craig Shemon and James Washington will be replaced by Clear Channel’s Premiere Radio Networks taking over the distribution of The Content Factory’s Dan Patrick Show. KLAC night hosts Petros Papadakis and Matt Smith will replace Krystal Fernandez and Andrew Siciliano in the 7pm – 10pm Eastern slot. Two of KLAC’s afternoon co-hosts, Steve Hartman and Vic Jacobs will join Chris Myers in the 3pm-7pm Eastern slot on FSR. The third KLAC co-host Mychal Thompson is out, as is Fox Sports Radio overnight host Ben Maller.

The new Fox Sports Radio will get extended clearances in at least three markets. Clear Channel’s “Xtra Sports 1360″ KLSD San Diego and “1130 The Fan” WDFN Detroit have eliminated all of their local positions to air the new FSR lineup 24/7. They will be joined by 740 WQTM Orlando, which will return to sports after a year as Spanish Oldies “La Preciosa” according to the Orlando Sentinel.
1460 The Fan Columbus Moves To FM
January 26, 2009

Dispatch Media Group has flipped Hot AC “Mix 97.1″ WBNS-FM Columbus, OH to Sports as “97.1 The Fan” simulcasting sister station 1460 WBNS.
“The Fan” is the flagship station of the NHL Columbus Blue Jackets and Ohio State University as well as the local affiliate for the Cleveland Indians. The station carries the ESPN Radio network outside of a 12-2pm show hosted by Mike Ricordati and Scott Torgerson and a 4-7pm show hosted by Bruce Hooley, former NFL player Chris Spielman, and ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit.

Meanwhile, across town Clear Channel has flipped Talk 1230 WYTS to Sports as “Fox Sports 1230″.
107.5 WJZZ Atlanta To Change Formats
January 28, 2009

Update 1/28/09: As expected, WJZZ became Urban AC “Magic 107.5″ today at 12am.
Net-Gnome Update 1/19/09:Over the weekend Radio-One registered a trio of domains that hint towards their plans in the Atlanta market.
Praise1025.com seems to hint at Gospel “Praise 97.5″ WPZE moving to the 102.5 frequency now hosting Talk/Urban Oldies “Grown Folks Radio” WAMJ.
MagicATL.com and MajicATL.com hints at WAMJ reclaiming one of its former monikers “Magic”. We’re going to have to assume that WAMJ’s format will move to a simulcast on 97.5 (which rimshots Atlanta from the southwest) and 107.5 (which rimshots Atlanta from the northeast).
Original Entry 1/14/09: Another exodus from Smooth Jazz is coming as Radio-One is planning to flip 107.5 WJZZ Atlanta over the next few days. PD Dave Kosh and personality Greg Fitzgerald were let go as part of the changes.
While the station is still broadcasting automated Smooth Jazz, the format will soon go by the wayside. With Martin Luther King Day and President Obama’s inauguration coming next week, Radio-One could have the perfect time to promote something to its target African-American audience.
La Presciosa Coming To Salt Lake City
January 29, 2009

Clear Channel has flipped “My Country 105.7″ KTMY Salt Lake City to its Spanish AC “La Preciosa” format. LaPreciosa1057.com was registered earlier this week and currently points to the My Country site.
KTMY is currently the lowest rated of four Country stations in the Salt Lake City market, registering a paltry 0.9 in the most recent ratings period. Bustos Media’s 102.3 KDUT is the only other Spanish FM in the heavily Hispanic market (12% of population).
