Spanish Broadcasting System flipped Spanish Hot AC “I-95.7” WRMA North Miami Beach to Cuban Hip-Hop or Cubatón “Ritmo 95” this morning.
The station will mix some Reggaetón and other forms of Latin Hip-Hop into the format, but focus mainly on the variation coming from Cuba. WRMA has struggled since the flip to “I-95.7” in January 2014 with the station no-longer even publishing its ratings publicly.
In describing the new format SBS EVP/Programming Jesus Salas told Billboard, “I’ve done extensive research on it, and there are more than 10 main Cuban artists making this kind of music, and I’ve found over 100 songs that I think are really good, and when they get exposed they’re going to become hits. There is more than enough music to create a station.”
