Update 8/1: 94.7 The Wave made the shift to Country at 6am today.
The CIWV calls are gone, with CHKX in its place for the new “KX 94.7“. The Smooth Jazz format continues online with the existing airstaff at Wave.fm.
Original Report 7/28: Durham Radio has announced that Smooth Jazz “94.7 The Wave” CIWV Hamilton, ON will flip to Country on Monday, August 1.
The station will be branded as “KX 94.7” paired with sister “KX96” CJKX Ajax/Oshawa to rimshot Country to both sides of the Greater Toronto Area. Hamilton has been without an FM Country outlet since 95.3 CING flipped to Classic Hits “Vinyl 95.3” in November 2009.
Very unhappy with the format change. 94.7 is the only station I listed to …. correction, I used to listen to.
It is not true that Hamilton has been “without a country outlet.” The text should read “it has been without an FM country outlet.” 820 CHAM returned to country some time ago.
I’m also upset about this change… listened to 94.7 online just a couple of weeks ago and it sounded very good.
Chris,
Thank you for that correction. We have made the clarification.
KX 94.7’s website, http://www.kx947.fm/, is now live. Their callsign will switched to CHKX to align with the new branding. The evidence of this can be found in the URL of their online steeam, http://player.streamtheworld.com/_players/durham/?callsign=CHKXFM.
I am very much looking forward to it. I live in Vaughan. KX96’s signal is not all that clear neither in my car nor at home. 820 CHAM has been okay for country but it is AM. 94.7 comes in very clearly and if their announcers are anything like KX96, it will be wonderful.
I suppose it’s now just a matter of time before CHAM is once again history; at least as far as country is concerned.
