Update 11/21: After two short delays that postponed the launch for a week, “News 92 FM” debuted at 5:00am this morning.
The station will air live News programming from 5am to Midnight daily with Dial Global’s Jim Bohannon in the overnights. You can listen to the debut of the station at FormatChange.com.
INSTANT INSIGHT: A lot has been discussed about the quality and lack of focus of Merlin Media’s recent News debuts in Chicago and New York. Radio-One on the other hand seems to have come out firing on all cylinders. Imaging is spot on. The presentation is tight. At lot can be said for taking time to launch with all the kinks worked out. Radio-One supposedly had the staff put together for months before the format was announced and postponed the launch twice when they weren’t ready to go live.
Original Report 10/28: Radio-One will flip Gospel “Praise 92.1” KROI Houston to All-News as “News 92” on Monday, November 14.
The station’s lineup will be led by longtime 740 KTRH morning team J.P. Pritchard and Lana Hughes. Additional duties throughout the day will be handled by other local notables including (listed alphabetically) Mike Barajas, Scott Braddock, Carolyn Campbell, Kevin Charles, Brent Clanton, Lanny Griffith, Laurie Kendrick, Martha Martinez, Bonnie Petrie, Matt Sampsell, Pattie Shieh, Meteorologist Dr. Joe Sobel, Craig Roberts, and Jorge Vargas.
Ed Shane, of Shane Media Services is serving as Product Manager overseeing the launch of the station. Denise Bishop has been named News Director. The local staff will be supported with affiliations with ABC News and Associated Press Platinum.
The existing Gospel format will remain online and via sister 102.1 KMJQ-HD2.
America In The Morning is pretty good. Jim Bohannon is the host of it, and is very heavy on news reports and features (specifically from CBS News)
I’m surprised their Top Hour news is ABC instead of CBS.
