Actor/Comedian Jay Mohr has been named the new midday host on Fox Sports Radio replacing Jim Rome.
Mohr has experience in both radio and sports talk. He’s been a regular guest on SiriusXM’s Opie & Anthony show going back to their WNEW days and has served as fill-in host for Rome. He hosts the “Mohr Stories” podcast on his own FakeMustache.com network. Mohr also hosted the short-lived “Mohr Sports” on ESPN in 2001.
Mohr will run in the 12-3pm eastern timeslot going head-to-head with Rome, whose program moves to CBS Sports Radio on January 2.
Is this going to be a mandated replacement on most (if not all) Fox Sports Radio affiliates? Judging by stations like KLSD/San Diego, the answer is ‘yes’…
Then there are those Rome affils independent of FSR or CC – most notably the split affiliation of WKNR/850 and WWGK/1540 in Cleveland – that have been strangely mum about what show they will take. My hunch is those stations will keep Rome, unless CBS/Cumulus has some other carriage requirements in mind or they cannot break the Premiere contract…
I don’t think any station is mandated to carry anything. Mohr will technically be replacing the simulcast of Fox Sports Daybreak in the 12-3pm slot as Rome was considered a separate programming service coming from Premiere Radio Networks.
Outside of XEPRS San Diego, which will be picking up Rome but retaining its ESPN affiliation for nights and weekends there hasn’t been a station that has come out and said it will be affiliating with CBSSR just for Rome.
