Update 2/5: KCKC made the flip to AC “KC 102.1” at 3pm today.
The move places the station in competition with Entercom’s “99.7 The Point” KZPT, which was tenth in the market with a 4.2 share in the Holiday PPM monthly. KCKC’s now-former AAA format registered a 2.0 share. Listen to the launch of KC102.1 at FormatChange.com.
The first hour of KC102.1 consisted of:

Update 2/4 7:05pm: At 6pm, following the conclusion of Semisonic’s “Closing Time”, KCKC began stunting with a countdown to 3:00pm on Wednesday, when the station will debut its new format.
Update 2/4 4:30pm: In a brilliant move, Entercom Alternative “96.5 The Buzz” KRBZ PD/Afternoon Host Lazlo is hyping the rumors of a flip of KCKC to Alternative.

Now if/when KCKC flips and it isn’t to Alternative, he can take credit for mobilizing The Buzz’s audience to prevent a new competitor. That said, we’re hearing from multiple sources that the flip is indeed going to take place on Wednesday but some form of Adult Contemporary is the likely new format with the “KC 102” branding.
KCConfidential.com has found a screenshot of a Facebook page purportedly for the new format, which has since been pulled.
Update 1/30: Add another domain registered by Wilks for KCKC as the company registered Alt102.com on Tuesday.
Original Report 1/27: Is a change afoot at Wilks AAA “Alice 102” KCKC Kansas City?
Wilks registered KC1021.com last week for the station. KCKC debuted its current format in January 2011, but has hovered around a 2.0 share in the last few PPM monthlies. It is now facing increased competition from recently relaunched “90.9 The Bridge” KTBG following its purchase by Kansas City Public Television.
I sense Mainstream AC or Rhythmic AC. Since Alice debuted, the ratings have generally been in the 2’s, while The Point is in the mid-3’s to 4’s. I think a good chunk of people there want a Mainstream AC back. And take it from a person who has family there and listened to Star and KUDL before they were killed off 3 years ago.
