Lincoln Financial Media Sports “790 The Zone” WQXI Atlanta has dropped all of its daily local programming in favor of the national ESPN Radio feed.
The move eliminates the local morning show hosted by Alge Crumpler and JP Peterson and the afternoon show hosted by David Archer and Mike Bell. The station will remain the co-flagship of Atlanta Falcons football with sister Hot AC “Star 94.1” WSTR and carry a package of SEC Football games in addition to the ESPN programming.
WQXI ranked third out of five Sports stations in the Atlanta market with a 0.5 share in the April 2014 PPM ratings trailing Dickey Brothers “680/93.7 The Fan” WCNN and CBS’ “92.9 The Game” WZGC. Also running Sports programming are Dickey Brother’s “1230 The Fan 2” WCOH and “1340 The Fan 3” WIFN. WQXI never recovered from the loss of its “Mayhem In the AM” morning show last summer after firing the show for mocking former NFL player Steve Gleason.
Sad. A once legendary station that inspired “WKRP in Cincinnati” now a computer in a closet.
Quixie in Dixie: RIP
And so another Ancient Modulation dinosaur passes into the tar pit of obsolescence. Unfortunately those of us who can still remember Quixie in Dixie are not too far behind.
