Following Cumulus ceasing distribution of Scott Shannon’s True Oldies Channel at the end of June, Shannon will return to syndication in October in partnership with CBS Radio and United Stations Radio Networks.
A weekly 4 hour program titled “Scott Shannon Presents: America’s Greatest Hits” will debut the weekend of October 18 on CBS’ ten Classic Hits formatted stations and on additional stations. In addition to hosting mornings at 101.1 WCBS-FM New York, Shannon has relaunched True Oldies Channel online.
CBS RADIO and United Stations Radio Networks announced today a joint collaboration to create and syndicate a new program, Scott Shannon Presents: America’s Greatest Hits. The new four-hour weekend show will debut on Saturday, Oct. 18 or Sunday, Oct. 19 on CBS RADIO’s 10 Classic Hits stations across the country, including WCBS-FM in New York, where Shannon currently hosts mornings. Additional affiliates will be announced at a later date.
Each hour of “America’s Greatest Hits” will be highlighted by artist interviews, song countdowns, one-hit-wonders and commentary from Shannon himself, among other features.
“I love the medium of radio… everybody knows that… and I’ll grab any chance possible to play the greatest hits of all time and tell stories about the artists, and the songs and the era that they come from,” said Shannon.
“Scott has established himself as one of the leading authorities on music from the 60s, 70s and 80s, and is among the best storytellers to ever grace the airwaves-it’s why he’s been so successful anchoring the lineup at WCBS-FM,” said Chris Oliviero, CBS RADIO Executive Vice President, Programming. “Today’s announcement takes what he does on a day-to-day basis and expands it to millions of listeners nationwide.”
“Scott is a legend in radio and having the opportunity to work with him and his team which includes his representative John McConnell and all the folks at CBS Radio, well, it’s a dream come true,” said Andy Denemark, Executive Vice President, Programming, United Stations.
