Update 12/16: “Sunny 105.5” quietly debuted last night. Billed as “South Jersey’s Greatest Hits”, the station is featuring the standard 60-80’s Classic Hits mix. It becomes the fourth Classic Hits station in New Jersey’s southernmost county joining 94.3 WIBG-FM, “Kool 98.3” WTKU, and “Fun 106.7” WFNE.
Original Report 12/14: On December 25, 2007 then 105.5 WGBZ Cape May Court House, NJ changed its call letters to WSNQ yet kept simulcasting sister Rhythmic CHR “99.3 Kiss-FM” WZBZ.
It finally looks like the format will shift to something to match the call letter change made four years ago. In late October, Equity Communications PD Rob Garcia registered Sunny1055FM.com and Sunny105FM.com. Both domains are featuring a splash page for the coming Classic Hits station.
Weird move. Are WTKU and WIBG doing so well that Cape May County needs a third Oldies/Classic Hits station?
Equity should aim their new station at WFPG listeners. Something closer to the existing Easy 93.1 format would work better for that purpose. The move from 93.1 to the better-located 105.5 signal makes sense, but I don’t see why they’d abandon Soft AC.
Don’t forget WFNE (small oldies station in Cape May owned by Coastal Broadcasting).
