Update 12/27: CKEA came out of Christmas Music and flipped to Variety Hits “95.7 Cruz-FM” a little before 9:00am today.
The new format is centered around Rock hits of the 80s and 90s and is promoting itself around its deep library. The station is launching with a promotion promising $10,000 if it plays the same song twice in one day.
The first hour of 95.7 Cruz-FM consisted of:
Queen – We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions
U2 – Mysterious Ways
Van Halen – Panama
Wang Chung – Dance Hall Days
John Cougar – Hurts So Good
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Scar Tissue
Rolling Stones – Beast Of Burden
Bon Jovi – You Give Love A Bad Name
Police – Roxanne
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers – Learning To Fly
Vapors – Turning Japanese
Eagles – Take It Easy
AC/DC – Thunderstruck
Fleetwood Mac – Go Your Own Way
The change comes one day after Harvard flipped 100.5 CKFT Fort MacMurray to “Cruz-FM“.
Original Report 12/15: A shift from AC to Variety Hits appears imminent at Harvard Broadcasting AC “Lite 95.7” CKEA Edmonton.
957CruzFM.com and .ca were registered by Harvard’s registrar this week. The company launched the Variety Hits “Cruz-FM” brand on December 26, 2012 on 96.3 CFWD Saskatoon. That station features a mix of Pop and Rock hits from the 70s through 90s branded as “Saskatoon’s Greatest Hits”.
Currently the lowest rated commercial FM in Edmonton with a 2.4 share, CKEA flipped from AAA to AC in March 2011.
Deep library? Songs won’t play twice a day? Consultants all over the boards say that’s no way to run a radio station.
