One of the markets that has yet to see translator action this year has been Chicago. Calvary Radio Network is looking to change that. 100.7 W264BF Englewood, IL currently operates with 2 watts from the top of the Willis (formerly Sears) Tower. It has been granted a CP to upgrade to 10 watts which will give it coverage of much of the city of Chicago. The translator is currently licensed to simulcast Calvary’s 89.9 WHLP Valparaiso, IN.
The maneuverings of Radio Power, Inc with its translators in Detroit will end up as one of the top stories of the year. Last month we reported that Radio Power had purchased 97.5 W248AQ Harrison, MI from Radio Assist Ministry for $32,000. The purchase was accompanied by an application to relocate to 107.1 as 97.5 became the home of CBC’s CBEW-FM Windsor, ON. Radio Power is now amending its application to instead relocate to 92.7 where it believes it will cause less interference than 107.1.
Townsquare Media has acquired 99.1 W256BU Albany, NY from Digital Radio Broadcasting for $245,000. The translator is currently simulcasting 90s Hits “105.7 Crush-FM” WQSH.
In August, Active Rock “95 Rock” WCHZ Augusta, GA was bumped from its previous home on 95.1 to a rimshot at 93.1. Beasley has closed on its $52,500 purchase on 95.5 W238AU Augusta to give the station back its lost coverage in Augusta proper. The translator is currently silent as it quickly builds its new facilities where it will operate with 250 watts from Martinez, SC.
Backyard Broadcasting has acquired 88.3 W203BF Williamsport, PA from Pensacola Christian College for $25,000. After it completes its upgrade and move to 101.3, where it will operate with 95 watts, the station will rebroadcast News/Talk 1340 WWPA.
“1600 ESPN” KGYM Cedar Rapids, IA has added a translator giving it coverage in nearby Iowa City. 106.3 K292FM is operating with 175 watts being fed by sister 102.9 KZIA-HD3.
Cumulus’ recent purchase of 100.7 K264AS Mooringsport, LA has completed its upgrade to 250 watts from downtown Shreveport. The station’s license features “Supertalk 1340” KRMD as its parent station.
