I remember you on the air at WFEC in the early 80s,I was an errand boy there in the early 70s!...whatever happened to the airchecks? I would love to get my hands on some real WFEC airchecks,as it was a fun time in my life and you don't see very many of them floating about...question is are they unscoped?

Bernie:

My brothers and I were given all the contents of the Lark building(WISL location) Since then we've teamed up with Tom Kutza and produced several radio shows that aired on several different radio stations. Most recently we've been digitizing the WISL archive of papers tapes and records. There's alot of hole in the history of the station. If you have anything that you could digitize like tapes you could put on CD or cassette copies or scanned documents or pictures etc. anything that could help tell the story would be great. If you don't have a way to do that maybe we could work something out. If you can I'll send you whatever you need. Since last year Tom and my brothers and I have been putting on a display for the Anthracite heritage festival. This year Tom and I are doing a 60th anniversary show to broadcast around Shamokin for the day. Also would you be able to set up a tape recorder and talk about the things you remember of WISL and radio in general? In the next month we'll be launching a website for the station and I need all the info I can get to do the biography on the station. Let me know if you could do anything.

Sincerely,

Troy Thomas's real name is Mark Clouser. I helped him with the PSU Middletown carrier-current station, WNDR. Helluva nice guy. Last I knew he had been at WAEB-FM in Allentown, but I lost track of him.
And, the WFEC tower was never at 9th street, just the studios. After the Blackstone building, the tower was moved to Shipoke, right near Penndot by the river. It's the unpainted stick you see on the right headed east on the South bridge.

Hi Bigguy, found this site by accident. TRYING TO GUESS YOUR IDENTITY. Worked at WISL/WSPI/WMIM lots of years, like 40. Retired now living in Florida. Miss the business real bad.
I do make it back to Mt. Carmel every May for turkey hunting. Been thinking about the possibility of a class reunion. Trying to get in touch with as many alumni of spi-95 as possible and having a dinner and raise a glass or too. It's a thought anyway. Try to gaet back to me and we can talk about the good old days-----thanks Bernie

Mr BigMan

I gave Troy Thomas his name (I forget his real name)… He was a part timer at the time and eventually replaced me on overnights (Or was it Chris Logan) I worked at Fire 14 from the spring of 1981 through early 83. It was my second job in radio and an utterly fantastic experience. The people I worked with there were really the coolest like family. I worked with Mark Davis, J Michael Mac Kay, Joe Womback (a news man with kick **** pipes) Robert Walker, and the Wild Child. What great people I’m sorry I lost touch with them. I went under the name of Lou Alexander (My real name and my radio name since then is Louie Manno) The Scott boys thought my real name was to ethnic- I did overnights and lots of production.

I was just looking through some old boxes in my basement and ran across a bunch of WFEC air checks. That’s what prompted me to google WFEC and that’s how I wound up at your post. It was an exciting time in my life I was 22 year old kid who had hardly been out of Brooklyn and there I was playing hits and heavily processed with lots of reverb. Harrisburg was good to me… I bounced around New England and in 85 wound up in Burlington Vermont… I liked the town so much I stayed. In 1990 me and a few friends bought WKDR AM and pioneered Hot Talk. When the station changed hands in 2000 I bought a deli http://www.radiodeli.com.

I just sold the store and am considering a GM position at a local station I am also shopping a TV pilot around here’s an early version of the pilot and some of my TV work at this link:

I don’t know if you folks ever heard me on Harrisburg’s Hot, but I want thank you for sutrring up some great memories from half a lifetime ago.
All I remember is the awesome Hot Hits days, with guys like Brian Murphy, Hot Shot Troy Thomas (who was a student at PUS Harrisburg at the time). Not sure if they were the first, but one of the first AM hot hitz stations programmed by Mike
Joseph.

Those were great times for AM radio!
Hi:

Rick Ricigliano passed away, maybe a decade ago. He was such a young man, whom I owe an awful lot of my radio training and experience to. Even though it was such a long time ago, it seems like yesterday he was giving me royal whatfor.

Gene Werley Sr. and Jr. are doing just fine, the last time I spoke with Jr.

Hey Bigman:

Did I read correctly Rick Ricigliano died? Or was it that Werley died? It wasn't plain. If it was Rick, what happened?
You're right, he was young.

They were - in two places - for many years in the basement of the blackstone building on Market. They were further out of downtown on market near 9th or 10th streets for the last few years the Scotts owned the station.
