While awaiting correction of server problems that crashed my own site, I stopped by here to see what's new; thought I'd check the Orlando board with two major items being reported from the market. I was surprised no one had posted on either! (Is this just a "slow" board these days? Last post here was in Feb.) Both of these are from my site, which at the moment is "not available" (?) -- so I can't just headline these items with links...

* A popular Orlando radio personality was killed Friday (May 1) when she tried to avoid debris on Florida's Turnpike and her car ended upside down underwater about 20 miles south of Osceola County. Power 95.3 (WPYO), Orlando, morning co-host Erika Roman, 31, was killed in the 1:30 p.m. single-car crash. A Florida Highway Patrol report says she was driving southbound on the Turnpike in the right-hand lane and swerved to the left to avoid a lounge chair in the road. She then overcorrected her 2007 Nissan Sentra and drove off the highway and onto the shoulder, according to the report. That's when her car flipped several times as it traveled more than 50 feet to a roadside canal and came to rest upside-down and submerged. A Highway Patrol trooper and another motorist went into the water to rescue the car's lone occupant. The other motorist was injured in his rescue attempt and was taken to a hospital, but the trooper was able to pull Roman from the water. He performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for 20 minutes, but was unable to revive her. She was pronounced dead at Lawnwood Medical Center in Fort Pierce.

* Orlando talk show host Shannon Burke is likely in jail for the weekend, after being charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and animal cruelty. Burke, who hosts middays on Talk "Real Radio 104.1" WTKS-FM, Orlando, was arrested after allegedly shooting his wife and dog. Orlando's WFTV-TV reports that a judge Friday afternoon (May 1) set bond at $10,000 for the radio personality. However, Burke's still on probation for an alcohol-related reckless driving charge in Orange County and a judge has issued a warrant for his arrest on a violation of probation connected to that charge, which carries no bond. Burke could be transferred to Orange County custody if he's released on the $10,000 bond set Friday by Seminole County, but he'd have to appear before an Orange County judge before that county could release him. Orange County jail officials said an appearance before a judge would not likely happen until at least Monday. So, Burke is either stuck behind bars Seminole County or Orange County likely through the weekend. Burke says the shooting incident was an accident and his wife is backing up his story. It happened at Burke's home Thursday night. Detectives believe Burke began waving a gun at his dog in anger, fired a shot at the dog and the bullet subsequently shot his wife in the head. Police tell the TV station that "Burke became angry with his dog and threatened it with a handgun he thought was unloaded." Apparently the gun went off, shooting the dog, and the bullet passed through the dog and grazed the head of his wife. Burke's radio station so far has declined comment.

My site has been down for about 13 hours now; was told there was "a major spike from a storm" and it is "just calming down now." Hopefully, it'll be back soon! (I have so much to do there, I don't get over here as often as I'd like!)

So Renda Broadcasting flips Muvin to Classic Country 100.7?
Whaaaaaz up with that. Jacksonville needs 3 country music stations like I need a hole in my head.. Wasn't that tried before? Now we have WQIK, Gator Country and now Classic Country. I'm assuming Renda is desperate by trying to peel off some of WQIK's older listeners. It's a blow torch against a match.. Plus, now all three country stations will share the same freaking audience.

WQIK & Rooster shared country formats with Gator Country coming in.. Well Rooster later played a similar classic format that died on the vine.

This should be interesting.. 100.7 flips formats every two years..

Hello everyone. I am a "radio geek" from New Jersey vacationing down here in Florida. I have a question about two towers (one tall, one shorter) near the DeLand/Orange City border. They are next to each other along Route 17-92 near SR-472. Does anyone know what they are? The taller one (red/white) looks like it could be an FM transmitter.
