100.1 WJRZ-FM Manahawkin / Toms River began their non-stop Christmas music early this year!

Last year, they did not go all Christmas at all... not even on Christmas Day, if I'm not mistaken.

I'll bet in almost EVERY market, the Country station is #1 with 42-year-old women who smoke Reds! LOL. I'm thinkin there might be a bottle of Johnnie Walker around there someplace too!

(Yes, I am rudely stereotyping. I am reserving a biting NASCAR comment for a later time.)

WTTH didn't go to all Christmas - the Cape May County simulcast 93.1, WEZW did.
It's not streaming yet, and a web address hasn't been announced yet.

Any station can be "Arbitron Rated Number One" depends what demo and time frame you look at. It's fun to sit with Arbitron Maximizer and figure out ways to look good. I found a way to make Cat Country 107.3 in Atlantic City # 1 in New York City one time by narrowing it way down to something like "Women 42 years old from 11 to 11:15 PM that smoke Marlboro 100s" or some such.

I heard a report (an apparently false report) that WTTH had gone all-Christmas. I went to the website and saw no such evidence so I clicked on the link to listen to the stream. The little window that popped up didn't identify the song playing, instead displaying "Arbitron Rated Number ONE!" I thought that was interesting since Equity used to try getting away with that on WAYV. Being a natural born radio geek, I wondered what WAYV's stream must say so I plugged in their website and brought up their player. Lo and behold, it also says "Arbitron Rated Number One!"

What an amazing feeling it must be to own two stations in the same market and have them both be #1. Bravo.

Where could i get a detailed song history of this radio station? Could someone direct me to the appropriate charts or records that have this sort of data from the variety of music that they used to play? Where is there a universal exchange of data or music from this radio station that was canceled?

Having BEEN at WKXW before it became New Jersey 101.5 and being the first program director upon being purchased by Press Broadcasting, I can tell you unequivically that Walt Sabo WAS the main reason for the station's success. I was the initial "builder" of the station; SABO the architect. Of course, managers and owners would LIKE to say it was THEIR idea...and there is some creedence that they wanted the 101.5 signal to be a more REGIONAL station...but....without SABO'S insight into what THAT particular station needed to BE after it was decided that the "KIX" format was dead, the station would likely still be playing Bobby Brown records. (Actually on the weekends, they may...dunno.)
But for ANYONE (who doesn't have a clue) to say they and other stations don't NEED a consultant once it is established is thinking like an oaf. See, Sabo taught me to NEVER say HE was an oaf...but the IDEA was. And THAT is why stations NEED a consistant to keep the TOTAL concept of the ship afloat. A program director is ultimately responsible for the day to day decisions and likely takes the brunt when things go wrong, and the last to be acknowleged when they go RIGHT, but I digress. The PROGRAM directors at NJ 101.5 during its upcoming 20th year in the format know exactly what I mean and ALL were VERY good programmers who GET what the station's mission is and continues to be. There have BEEN only FOUR of us in the 20 years...including Perry Simon, Leigh Jacobs and most recently for the longest tenure of ALL of us, Eric Johnson. ALL of which I can still call my friends. I hope. Anyway...

Walter rightly takes a majority of the credit for the entire CONCEPT of a STATION named after a Media-Starved state like OURS. HIS insight about that matter was pure genius.
I'd like to know WHY Walter's services are no longer needed...but having been the brunt of budget cuts at one company TWICE within the last 5 years, I answered my own oaf-like question.

I personally take a lot of pride in knowing that what Walter and I (along with the orginal management team) set out to do is STILL taking no prisoners and kicking the **** of most broadcasters in all of America! That's a bold statement...but when you consider a signal coming from market 845 has a cume of over a million per week, and that it IS the most listened to FM TALK STATION in the nation speaks volumes.

I MUST add (like Walter did) that he (and I) had an amazing array of INCREDIBLE air talent to work with. Each instinctively got what the station was and carried out their mission with total accuarcy.

BE BIG!

Funny, I remember people twerping on when they blew out Willie Twyman and replaced him with Tommy G. Out went Willie and the overnight music. So, methinks they wouldn't do that again..... but, that is sad!

Something tells me what E Gill found as a potential oopsie on Yes (was it?) might be more of a sign of things to come???

The reason a station benefits from a good consultant (And there are many like Fred Jacobs) is that they can keep a winning station on course. The reason New Jersey 101.5 consistently did the same thing and did it well was that I worked with the EXCELLENT staff to maintain that quality. Through many program directors and hosts, a consultant can be the constant to give the listener a consistently good experience. It's like the Executive Producer in TV---same one from the start of a show despite massive crew changes, new writers and Directors.

I think it's odd that if you search for WKXW at yes.com, it returns the station as "WKXW - 101.5 - ESPN sports." A lot of stations aren't updated after they change formats...but 101.5 was never ESPN or Sports.

It can't have always been listed that way on yes.com. I just think it's a strange mistake.
