100.1 WJRZ-FM Manahawkin / Toms River began their non-stop Christmas music early this year!

Last year, they did not go all Christmas at all... not even on Christmas Day, if I'm not mistaken.

I heard a report (an apparently false report) that WTTH had gone all-Christmas. I went to the website and saw no such evidence so I clicked on the link to listen to the stream. The little window that popped up didn't identify the song playing, instead displaying "Arbitron Rated Number ONE!" I thought that was interesting since Equity used to try getting away with that on WAYV. Being a natural born radio geek, I wondered what WAYV's stream must say so I plugged in their website and brought up their player. Lo and behold, it also says "Arbitron Rated Number One!"

What an amazing feeling it must be to own two stations in the same market and have them both be #1. Bravo.

Where could i get a detailed song history of this radio station? Could someone direct me to the appropriate charts or records that have this sort of data from the variety of music that they used to play? Where is there a universal exchange of data or music from this radio station that was canceled?

Having BEEN at WKXW before it became New Jersey 101.5 and being the first program director upon being purchased by Press Broadcasting, I can tell you unequivically that Walt Sabo WAS the main reason for the station's success. I was the initial "builder" of the station; SABO the architect. Of course, managers and owners would LIKE to say it was THEIR idea...and there is some creedence that they wanted the 101.5 signal to be a more REGIONAL station...but....without SABO'S insight into what THAT particular station needed to BE after it was decided that the "KIX" format was dead, the station would likely still be playing Bobby Brown records. (Actually on the weekends, they may...dunno.)
But for ANYONE (who doesn't have a clue) to say they and other stations don't NEED a consultant once it is established is thinking like an oaf. See, Sabo taught me to NEVER say HE was an oaf...but the IDEA was. And THAT is why stations NEED a consistant to keep the TOTAL concept of the ship afloat. A program director is ultimately responsible for the day to day decisions and likely takes the brunt when things go wrong, and the last to be acknowleged when they go RIGHT, but I digress. The PROGRAM directors at NJ 101.5 during its upcoming 20th year in the format know exactly what I mean and ALL were VERY good programmers who GET what the station's mission is and continues to be. There have BEEN only FOUR of us in the 20 years...including Perry Simon, Leigh Jacobs and most recently for the longest tenure of ALL of us, Eric Johnson. ALL of which I can still call my friends. I hope. Anyway...

Walter rightly takes a majority of the credit for the entire CONCEPT of a STATION named after a Media-Starved state like OURS. HIS insight about that matter was pure genius.
I'd like to know WHY Walter's services are no longer needed...but having been the brunt of budget cuts at one company TWICE within the last 5 years, I answered my own oaf-like question.

I personally take a lot of pride in knowing that what Walter and I (along with the orginal management team) set out to do is STILL taking no prisoners and kicking the **** of most broadcasters in all of America! That's a bold statement...but when you consider a signal coming from market 845 has a cume of over a million per week, and that it IS the most listened to FM TALK STATION in the nation speaks volumes.

I MUST add (like Walter did) that he (and I) had an amazing array of INCREDIBLE air talent to work with. Each instinctively got what the station was and carried out their mission with total accuarcy.

BE BIG!

Millennium is really rolling the dice lately, aren't they? Seems they're determined to trash the place. Recently, they fired Tommy G, the only host on the station who I could stomach, and now they've gotten rid of Walt Sabo, who consulted since inception.

Oh! And when they canned Tommy G, they replaced him not with their music format (which has always been spectacular and is now their only programming I can tolerate), but with "Best of" shows. Maybe someone can explain to me why they think reruns of call-in shows will have some allure. I mean, it defeats the entire purpose and reason for listening to call-in talk radio. Just put the **** music on!

I used to love that station. Now I have virtually no use for it and it seems things are only getting worse! Yikes.

I think it's odd that if you search for WKXW at yes.com, it returns the station as "WKXW - 101.5 - ESPN sports." A lot of stations aren't updated after they change formats...but 101.5 was never ESPN or Sports.

It can't have always been listed that way on yes.com. I just think it's a strange mistake.

Governor Jon Corzine (a Democrat, of course) has declined an invitation from New Jersey 101.5 to debate Republican opponent Chris Christie. If I were Corzine, I'd have done the same thing. I wouldn't be giving any promotion to a station that's done nothing but tear me down for the duration of my term as governor! And I would hardly expect them to be interested in fairness! After all, I can't remember the last time I heard of anyone acting in a bipartisan fashion on that station!

Program Director Eric Johnson told Radio-Info "Governor Corzine clearly does not want to discuss his record and has turned his back on the people of New Jersey. We have an audience of a million people … maybe he’s afraid?” Good thing Johnson is just the PD and not reporting actual news. Seems he has a little trouble keeping rhetoric and partisanship out of the mix. And it also seems he ignores some pretty relevant facts: If Corzine were afraid to debate, he wouldn't have already agreed to do so on another radio station.

Corzine is clearly snubbing New Jersey 101.5 and how anyone can blame him is beyond me. They've been little more than a shill for the GOP since at least the turn of the century!

Oh! Johnson also says they may have to hold the debate with an empty chair. This is nothing new. They've done this before when a Democrat refused to show up for a tar-and-feathering. This is an attention-grab; nothing more, nothing less. The ironic thing is it won't change anyone's minds. No one who was going to vote for Corzine is going to tune in to hear Christie pretty much being given his own free, long-form radio commercial. And it's not likely many Democratic voters are listening anyway, especially since the firing of Tommy G (by most accounts, the only host left who wasn't a raging Republican).

New Jersey 101.5 has really become a total joke. I suppose as long as they keep serving the Kool Aid, people will keep coming around though.

How the heck can HD get off the ground, I was in Wildwood last week, nothing on HD except JSE but no side channel, and some non-comm....This week in Seaside Heights two HD's, JRZ and the RAT still no side bands....three if you count SOJO with no side band....so that is 3-4 stations in HD at the shore with no sides....meaning nothing to listen to HD wise....I think at this rate HD will surely flop big time....and for the local Philly signals HD has no strength, nothing like HD Television which comes in better than the old signals..10 miles from the Xmtr and they are gone....any solutions lets hear them....Satellite is the way to go if you don't like the normal band menu....
