<title>raccoonradio on "WGBH dumps folk, blues programming"</title>

<description>&#60;p&#62;If the FCC as expected approves the sale of WCRB to WGBH, WCRB 99.5 will stay classical but go non-commercial and WGBH will be more of a news-talk oriented station. They just announced the &#38;quot;difficult decision&#38;quot; to dump their Sat. afternoon folk and Sat. night blues shows, which had run for many years (in the case of the latter, Mai Cramer had done over 25 years by the time she passed on earlier this decade; Brendan Hogan had hosted it more recently).&#60;br /&#62;
They point out other spots on the dial do offer blues or folk (and there&#38;#39;s also HD or&#60;br /&#62;
satellite radio if you prefer). But some stations may not be powerful, and the HD&#60;br /&#62;
and satellite options don&#38;#39;t necessarily offer DJs or local content.&#60;/p&#62;

<description>&#60;p&#62;&#60;font color=&#34;#006600&#34;&#62;Last year, we got Christmas music allegedly because we&#38;#39;d won the World Series.  It would be nice if someone would flip tonight to make us feel better about losing to such a bunch of ugly bastards.  &#60;/font&#62;&#60;/p&#62;

<description>&#60;p&#62;It&#38;#39;s November 1st, and according to the list of all-CChristmas formats maintained at 100000 Watts.com (&#60;a href=&#34;http://www.100000watts.com/specials,asp&#34; rel=&#34;nofollow&#34;&#62;http://www.100000watts.com/specials,asp&#60;/a&#62; ), there are (as of 3 P.M.. EST, Sunday, November 1st) nine all-Christmas stations (7 analog, 2 HD-2 streams) in the country.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Only in Tulsa is there competition among analog all-Christmas stations so far: KQLL-106.1 (owned by, you guessed it, Christmas Channel) and KBEZ-92.9. According to playlists posted on Yes.com,. KQLL took the plunge in the wee hours of yesterday (October 31st), with KBEZ following late that morning.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Interestingly enough, St. Louis&#38;#39; KEZK-102.5 had on it&#38;#39;s website a clock indicating it would flip to all-Christmas on 12:01 A.M. CST on Thursday, November 19th. But Christmas Channel (a/k/a Clear Channel) flipped urban KATZ-100.3 to an all-Christmas sound, first stunting (according to a playlist posted on Yes.com ) on Friday with Halloween-themed records, then taking the plunge this morning around 8 A.M. CST.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;This may force KEZK to flip long before they wanted to.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Since very few urban stations get flipped to Christmas, KATZ will likely start 2010 with a new format. I wonder if they might go talk with shows from sister company Premiere Networks??&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I expected far, far more stations to flip today. On the other hand, many music stations are 100% automated on Sundays, and often air specialty programming on Sundays.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Maybe the big day might be tomorrow, the 2nd. Perhaps we&#38;#39;ll see dozens of flips then.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The link above to the 100000 Watts.com listing of all-Christmas stations may be the best and fastest way of learning of flips outside your local area.

<title>Aaron on "New CHR in Baltimore: Z104.3 debuts"</title>

<description>&#60;p&#62;So Baltimore finally gets it&#38;#39;s own CHR-  Z104.3.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;They&#38;#39;re using the same logo and voice as NY&#38;#39;s Z100 and a pretty similar playlist.  I&#38;#39;m guessing they&#38;#39;ll be running Elvis Duran as well, although Hot 99.5&#38;#39;s Kane is another possibility.  I&#38;#39;m a little surprised they sound so current and decided to copy Z100 instead of the recurrent-heavy Hot 99.5.  It&#38;#39;s a good way to differentiate themselves from Hot AC/CHR hybrid Mix 106.5 though, since Mix tends to be slow on new hits.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I&#38;#39;m wondering how Mix 106.5 will react. Their music has gotten pretty rhythmic for a Hot AC, but they still play quite a few 90&#38;#39;s golds and are missing a few of the big currents. Should be a good battle.

<description>&#60;p&#62;&#60;strong&#62;Sorry about the formatting.  I&#38;#39;m using regular old bbcode tags.&#60;/strong&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#60;u&#62;Some observations&#60;/u&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;ul&#62;&#60;li&#62; WIP:  Lookin&#38;#39; good this book.  I can&#38;#39;t imagine why.&#60;/li&#62;&#60;li&#62; WHYY:  Has been posting steady declines (3.6 - 3.5 - 3.1 - 2.9), not that it matters.&#60;/li&#62;&#60;li&#62; WISX:  This might be a good year for them to try the all-Christmas stunt.&#60;/li&#62;&#60;li&#62; WYSP:  My records stretch back to September 2008 and their latest numbers--a 2.7 share and 994,300 cume (a huge increase)--are the highest during all that time.  (They&#38;#39;re ahead of WPPZ, WUSL, and WPHI.)  This has got to be confusing the &#38;quot;WIP-FM&#38;quot; issue!&#60;/li&#62;&#60;li&#62; WPPZ:  4.3 - 3.9 - 3.9 - 3.2 - 2.7.  Yikes.&#60;/li&#62;&#60;li&#62;WUSL:  Cume has plummeted to its lowest point in my records.&#60;/li&#62;&#60;li&#62;WPHI:  Suffered a similar cume bust to WUSL.  They haven&#38;#39;t been this low since September 2008.&#60;/li&#62;&#60;/ul&#62; &#60;/p&#62;
