At this writing (Friday afternoon, September 4th), we may be a short time away from learning the fate of Victoria's CHEK-6.

A Broadcaster Magazine report (http://www.broadcastermagazine.com/issues/ISArticle.asp?aid=1000339941) indicates that the station will stay on the air through at least late this evening with local news broadcast as usual.

A group of employees is trying to raise money to purchase the station which would then make it an employee-owned company.

The bid of CHEK-6's employees to purchase the station from Canmwest/Global has succeeded, and as a result, CHEK will stay on-the-air.

According to an article from Broadcaster Magazine (http://www.broadcastermagazine.com/issues/ISArticle.asp?aid=1000340098), CHEK was due to go off the air on Monday (September 7th), but an "eleventh hour" agreement was reached.

The article also stated that the station was sold for an "undisclosed nominal price".

Considering how cheap TV stations in Canada have become, it might not be much.
