Today’s RadioInsight Headlines
Quick Ratings Thoughts:
San Francisco – The KGO dominance of the Bay Area continues with its #1 spot here and in neighboring San Jose. It has a 1.7 point lead on #2 KOIT. Worrisome numbers for CBS as its four FM stations fill the bottom spots for all full-market FM signals. Alternative KITS at 1.7, Modern AC KLLC at 1.5, Rhythmic AC KMVQ at 1.4, and relaunched Classic Hits KFRC at 1.2.
Washington DC – Amazing book for News/Talk WMAL up 2.8 to 4.3. Sister Hot AC dropped 3.1 to 2.4. Gospel “Praise 104.1″ WPRS debuted at 2.6 in its first full book.
St. Louis – The relaunch of KLOU as “My 103.3″ paid huge dividends as the station rose 3.5 to 4.5. Hot AC KYKY also surged from 2.8 to 3.7. Big drop at Classic Rock KSHE from 5.2 to 4.3. KMOX keeps its perpetual hold on #1 at 7.0.
Baltimore - The big story is the continued demise of one time market powerhouse News/Talk WBAL. Down to 6th place at 4.4, WBAL in the past year has lost middayer Chip Franklin, Rush Limbaugh, and Orioles baseball. WCBM surges with the addition of Limbaugh 3.3 to 4.1. Big gains at “Mix 106.5″ WWMX 3.8 to 4.6 as the station evolves into a current/recurrent based Adult CHR.
Cleveland - Great book for Radio One’s FM stations. While News/Talk WTAM stays at #1, Urban AC WZAK is up .9 to 7.4 for 2nd place and Urban WENZ is up 5.2 to 6.9 for fourth. The relaunch of Sports WKNR under new owner Good Karma leads to an early .7 drop to 1.7.
More Ratings Insight – Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC.
Atlanta - Marco, Shannon and Mikey won’t be part of the resurrection of Indianapolis’ “Radio Now”. The former WNOU morning team will be heading to Atlanta to take the reigns at WSTR “Star 94″. It had previously announced that hosts Steve & Vikki would end their show on November 2nd after Vikki resigned for health reasons and Steve’s contact was not renewed. Marco, Shannon and Mikey will join their new station on December 1, but not make their on-air debut until January 2 after using the month to get familiar with their new market. (AccessAtlanta)
Washington, DC – The Washington Nationals have signed a three-year contract to remain with Bonneville’s News/Talk “3WT” 1500 WWWT/107.7 WWWT-FM/820 WWWB. (DCRTV)
Boston - Variety Hits WMKK “93.7 Mike-FM” will go commercial free weekdays from 9am to noon. Good ploy to increase office listening. (Boston Globe)
