Cox Media Group flipped Sports “CBS Sports 860” KONO San Antonio to Oldies at 6pm tonight.
The station will flank sister Classic Hits 101.1 KONO-FM Helotes with a 1960s and 70s based playlist. The new format is launching with a commercial-free weekend. KONO had been carrying the CBS Sports Radio network around the clock along with a ocal afternoon show hosted by Walter Pasacrita.
860 KONO was one of the heritage Top 40s in the San Antonio market in the 1960s and 70s. The station flipped to Oldies in the late 80s and added the 101.1 simulcast in 1991. 860 would break off the simulcast and flip to the now former Sports format in January 2014.
About time that KONO AM returned to it’s oldies roots. Ever since i was a kid kono was the place that played the coolest oldies. But up till 2 years ago kono had oldies on AM as well. I knew from the start that their sports talk format wouldn’t last. But for those who don’t know they now play 60s, 70, and crusing classic oldies. Keep oldies alive.
