iHeartMedia has promoted Russell Rush to Program Director of CHR “Mix 96.1” KXXM San Antonio.
Rush has been with KXXM since 2005 and added APD and Afternoon Host duties the following year. He takes over the day-to-day programming job that had been vacant since Chase Murphy departed last year.
iHeartMedia announced today that Russell Rush has been promoted to Program Director for Mix 96.1, San Antonio’s #1 Hit Music Station, effective immediately. He will continue to serve as weekday afternoon on-air personality for the station. Mix 96.1 has a strong cross-platform presence and broadcasts several popular personalities including the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show, Emily and EJ.
iHeartMedia has massive consumer reach and influence across multiple platforms and delivers more live programming than any other media company, and Rush will be responsible for the day-to-day programming operations of Mix 96.1. He will work closely with on-air personalities and sales to oversee the station’s on-air content, digital footprint and music programming. Rush will report to Brian Gann, Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia’s Central Texas Region.
“Russell is extremely talented and we are thrilled to have him leading our Mix 96.1 team,” said Matt Martin, President of iHeartMedia’s Central Texas Region. “Russell embodies the CHR lifestyle and is tuned into the San Antonio market. It’s hard to imagine anyone more passionate about this station and its listeners!”
Rush is a well-respected San Antonio-area radio personality who has been with iHeartMedia since 2005, most recently serving as Assistant Program Director and hosting The Russell Rush Show on Mix 96.1. In addition, he serves as host of a weekly public affairs show that airs on all seven stations in the iHeartMedia San Antonio market. In 2008, he was named “Radio Personality of the Year” by the San Antonio Media Alliance. Rush also hosts The Russell Rush Haunted Tour, which is a well-known web based show where Rush and his co-stars hunt ghosts.
“I am beyond excited for the opportunity to grow my career with iHeartMedia in San Antonio,” said Rush. “This is such a vibrant and amazing city that deserves the best radio we can deliver and I look forward to continuing Mix 96.1’s dominance as San Antonio’s heritage CHR station.”
