After cutting their morning show and all other local programming on “KNBR 1050” KTCT San Francisco, Cumulus Media is moving Kevin Frandsen and Drew Hoffar to nights at 680 KNBR starting August 14.
The duo will host “KNBR Tonight” from 7-10pm or after San Francisco Giants games replacing Ray Woodson, who exited along with the KTCT changes at the end of July. San Jose native Frandsen spent a decade in the major leagues including two tours with the local Giants. Hoffar joined Cumulus last year to host the KTCT morning show after runs at Entercom Sports “95.7 The Game” KGMZ in San Francisco and CBS Radio’s 1140 KHTK Sacramento at which he co-hosted with Don Geronimo.
Cumulus Media announces that Bay Area natives Kevin Frandsen and Drew Hoffar will host KNBR 680 AM’s new evening show, KNBR Tonight. The show debuts Monday, August 14, 2017, and will air weekdays from 7:00-10:00pm PST and immediately following weekday San Francisco Giants postgame programming.
Frandsen, a San Jose native and graduate of San Jose State University, was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2004. He went on to play for the Giants from 2006-2009, before joining the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2010), Philadelphia Phillies (2012-2013) and Washington Nationals (2014) before ending his 10-year MLB career with the hometown Giants in 2015. Frandsen previously co-hosted on KNBR 1050’s morning show “The Audible” and has filled in regularly on KNBR 680 throughout the past two years.
Hoffar grew up in San Leandro and has over 12 years of hosting experience and most recently served as lead host on KNBR 1050’s morning show The Audible alongside Frandsen. Hoffar previously held anchor and host positions at KGMZ in San Francisco and KHTK in Sacramento.
Jeremiah Crowe, Program Director of KNBR 680AM and KNBR 1050AM, said: “Drew and Kevin are primed to make a huge impact in their new roles within KNBR Tonight. Their work ethic is unmatched and both are committed to the smallest of details that will generate a great listener experience. They are Bay Area natives whose personalities are relatable to the common fan, yet they each possess a vast knowledge of the overall sports landscape. I’m equally excited to see what they will provide us digitally and I applaud Cumulus San Francisco for putting them in a position to shine. Bay Area sports fans will find unmatched opinion, insight and humor each evening when they tune in from 7:00-10:00pm.”
Frandsen said: “In my time as a major leaguer, I prided myself on performing in several roles as a utility player. Since arriving at KNBR. I’ve had the pleasure of working with some of the format’s most established personalities across a variety of timeslots. This evening post on KNBR Tonight is a chance to advance my relationship with one of the best young talents in radio, connect with the best sports fans in the country and move the KNBR brand forward into the digital age. Drew and I are looking forward to starting on August 14th and KNBR 680 fans can expect a local-born show with established chemistry out of the gates.”
Hoffar said: “As a lifelong KNBR 680 listener and San Leandro native, I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to reach so many die-hard Bay Area sports fans on a nightly basis. Hosting evenings on KNBR carries a responsibility to serve fans the quality content they deserve as the daily news cycle hits a close. On KNBR Tonight, Kevin and I will provide a unique perspective on the games and will look to entertain/inform listeners every time we open the mics. I can’t wait to get started on August 14th!”
