FCC Actions
Ralla Broadcasting was issued a Notice of Unlicensed Operation as it has continued to operate the former 990 WCAZ Carthage IL since the station’s license was deleted earlier this year. WCAZ was notified by the commission in June 2015 and December 2016 that it had a red light delinquency owed but received no response either time leading to the deletion of the license in April. WCAZ had been fined $3500 in 2007 for filing a late renewal application in 2004.
An FCC agent visited the former WCAZ on June 28 and ordered the company to cease operations immediately as it no longer had authority to broadcast, which the station’s management refused to do. As of Friday, DWCAZ is still broadcasting.
The FCC has fined Cumulus Media $20,000 for repeated EEO violations at its five stations in the Myrtle Beach SC market. The violations include failure to report any recruitment sources for three of the five hires it made in its 2008-2009 report while the other two hires were made by word of mouth, failing to notify a source that had requested notification of job vacancies, failing to retain records of the number or source of its
interviewees for 10 of the 11 full-time vacancies in the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 report, and due to the former giving the FCC the inability to analyze its recruitment program and including the number of and referral source of interviewees in its public inspection file. Cumulus Myrtle Beach stations include Urban AC “98.5 Kiss-FM” WDAI Pawleys Island, Sports “100.3 The Team” WSEA Atlantic Beach, Classic Hits “Sunny 103.1” WSYN-FM Surfside Beach, Country “106.5 Nash-FM” WLFF Conway, and Sports “Fox Sports 1050” WHSC Conway.
Ed Stolz’ Silver State Broadcasting’s CHR “104.3 Now-FM” KFRH North Las Vegas has been issued a Notice of Violation following a complaint from the Federal Aviation Administration for its STL WLI700 having a spurious emission on 118.75 MHz causing interference to aircraft and air traffic controllers at McCarran International Airport.
The FCC has granted Bread of Life’s Petition For Reconsideration for the modification and license to cover grant for Centro Cristiano de Vida Eterna’s 102.5 K273CW Houston. Bread of Life is the licensee of Urban “Amazing 102.5” KMAZ-LP Houston and argued that the CP of K273CW would have overlapped a populated area already receiving a regularly used signal from the existing non-translator station and result in interference to KMAZ-LP.
