No, the company that used to operate stations in South Texas is not coming back, but rather the first Brit seeking to have ownership of an American radio station is resurrecting the Border Media name for its intent to purchase Silent 102.1 WRGR Tupper Lake NY.
Border Media, led by Ricki Lee, has applied to purchase WRGR from Ted Morgan’s Radio Lake Placid for $8,000. The buyer is the co-founder and CEO of radio station web platform Aiir.com and a former programmer of Tomahawk Radio’s “106.5 Jack-FM” and “Star 107.2” in Bristol UK. He and his wife Hanna Kaleta will each hold 50% stakes in Border Media. While Lee is a citizen of the United Kingdom, Kaleta is a Polish citizen, although both have been American residents since 2015.
The company has begun promoting that WRGR will return to the air as Classic Hits “Lake-FM” positioned as “The Tri-Lakes Greatest Hits” when the sale closes later this year.
Border Media, LLC. (the “Company”) today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire WRGR, Tupper Lake, NY from Radio Lake Placid, Inc. (the “Acquisition”).
“My wife and I are really excited to announce this acquisition said Ricki Lee – Border Media. After numerous visits to the Adirondacks, we’ve simply fallen in love with the area and we’d been exploring radio ownership for some time. This opportunity was too good to pass up and we now look forward to working with the FCC for approval and are exciting to add another choice to the Tri-Lakes population”
Border Media expects the Acquisition to close in the third quarter of 2018, subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
Broker Jason James of Patrick Communications represented the Seller in connection with the Acquisition.
