Longtime Atlanta radio personality Ryan Cameron is joining Urban One’s cluster in a cross-platform deal.
Cameron will host afternoons on Urban AC “Majic 107.5/97.5” WAMJ Roswell/WUMJ Fayetteville starting Monday, November 5 with current afternoon hosts Chubb Rock and Silas ‘SiMan Baby’ Alexander moving to nights. Cameron will also create and produce content and strategy for other Urban One properties including the TVOne cable network. He will also continue to serve as a partner at Threaded and Rakanter, an Atlanta based marketing firm and as in-stadium host for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.
Cameron most recently had been hosting mornings at Entercom Urban “V103” 103.3 WVEE from 2012 through February of this year after spending seven years in afternoons there. He began his career at WVEE in 1990 as an intern and later became night host until jumping to Radio-One for a brief stint at 93.9 WKYS Washington DC before returning to Atlanta to launch then “Hot 97.5” WHTA in 1995 as morning host. He would stay at WHTA through its move to 107.9 until returning to WVEE in 2005.
Radio One Atlanta and its parent Urban One are teaming with veteran Atlanta radio personality Ryan “The Ryan King” Cameron for a cross-platform partnership that will take advantage of Urban One’s various brands. Cameron will return to the airwaves on WAMJ-FM (Majic 107.5/97.5) for afternoons from 2-6pm beginning Monday, November 5. Most recently, he anchored AM drive at Entercom crosstown Urban AC WVEE-FM (V-103). Cameron has won two Emmys, received two Marconi nominations and was inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame.
“Cameron is rejoining the company after establishing himself as one of the most successful radio personalities in the region,” said Urban One CEO Alfred Liggins. “We are making a 360-degree deal to leverage and develop his brand utilizing access to our radio, television and digital assets, which reach more than 80-percent of African Americans. It’s a win win.”
“It is a dream come true to add Ryan’s amazing talent to our line up,” said Regional VP and GM Tim Davies. “Majic is truly the Real Sound of Atlanta. We have the all-star team in the ATL.” This will be Cameron’s second stint with Radio One Atlanta. He hosted the Ryan Cameron Morning Show on Hot 107.9 for eight years in the early ‘90s.
Cameron’s radio career and various appearances on television and film has afforded him the opportunity to work across platforms, and earlier this year, he became a partner in Threaded.agency, a new Atlanta-based branding firm. “In this new model, my recent and my on-going experience at Threaded.agency will let me help companies and brands in a way that impacts their audience in a positive way,” stated Cameron. “I’m very excited because I’m not only coming back to work with a phenomenal company but also doing it in a new model that was not possible earlier in my career. This is something I just couldn’t pass up.”
