iHeartMedia News/Talk 1530 KFBK Sacramento/93.1 KFBK-FM Pollock Pines CA has appointed Sam Shane as co-anchor for its morning news alongside Cristina Mendonsa.
Shane becomes the second anchor addition in KFBK mornings since last August when Mendonsa replaced Amy Lewis. He takes the spot most recently held by Dan Mitchinson until his exit last week. Shane has been hosting a Saturday afternoon show on KFBK since March 2018 after ending a 30 year television anchoring career that included twelve years at “CBS 13” KOVR Sacramento as well as time at KCRA-TV, KGO-TV San Francisco, KCPQ Seattle, and MSNBC.
NewsRadio KFBK, Sacramento’s News, Weather and Traffic Station, announced today that Sam Shane has been named co-anchor/host of “The KFBK Morning News” airing weekdays from 5 – 9 a.m., effective April 1.
Shane will join co-host Cristina Mendonsa on the morning program to deliver the latest local, national and breaking news and analysis. In addition to reporting on-air, Shane’s news stories will be featured on KFBK.com and its social media channels.
“We’re thrilled that Sam is joining NewsRadio KFBK,” said Curtiss Johnson, Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia Sacramento. “He and Cristina will break down the day’s news and explain exactly how that news affects Sacramento and Northern Californians, providing insights beyond the headlines.”
“Sam’s deep roots in our community and his connections in the Capital City mean that he has a wealth of experience, perspective and views to draw upon that will give clarity and perspective to the day’s events,” said Bill White, Program Director of NewsRadio KFBK. “It’s that wealth of experience, intellect and analysis that will help make ‘The KFBK Morning News’ so much more than just a utility and download of daily data.”
Shane has more than 30 years of experience in broadcast journalism and investigative reporting. His career includes stints at KCRA-TV and CBS 13 Sacramento, KGO-TV San Francisco, Fox TV Seattle and as a national anchor for MSNBC. Shane is a graduate of the University of Minnesota.
“I’m delighted to join Cristina and the entire team at NewsRadio KFBK,” said Shane. “Listeners can expect a show packed with engaging, relevant and meaningful stories from around the word – with an emphasis on the local events that impact them right here in Northern California.”
