Tribune Media News/Talk 720 WGN Chicago has cut ties with late night host Patti Vasquez, who then confirmed a Poltico report from this morning that she intends to run for Illinois State Senate.
In a staff memo received by Robert Feder, VP/Content Todd Manley stated “Patti Vasquez is no longer working with WGN Radio. Her departure is a private matter and will remain that way. We are grateful to her for her service to WGN Radio, and wish her the best.”
Vasquez, a stand-up comedian and actress, joined WGN in September 2013 as late night host. She moved to 7-11pm last summer with Andrea Darlas added as a co-host, but then moved back to 10pm-1am in January following a weeklong suspension for posting social media messages that were deemed threatening to a WGN producer.
She is seeking the Democratic Illinois State Senate seat being vacated by John Mulroe following his appointment to the Cook County Circuit Court.
