Former University of Florida Head Coach Steve Spurrier and UF/NFL Quarterback Shane Matthews have joined the University’s “ESPN Gainesville” 850 WRUF/98.1 W251CG Gainesville for a weekly show alongside WRUF host Steve Russell.
“Inside The Huddle” will air Tuesdays at 10am as part of a multi-platform distribution including live video on WRUF’s Facebook page and as a podcast. Spurrier, who coached UF from 1990-2001 and also has coached the Washington Redskins and University of South Carloina, and Matthews, who played for Spurrier and spent 13 years in the NFL, will focus their show recapping the previous weekend’s college football. Russell also hosts the daily 12-2pm “Sportscene” on WRUF.
The “HBC” (Head Ball Coach) Steve Spurrier has announced a gathering of the minds in Gainesville, FL that already has college football’s biggest fans tuning in. Launched in partnership with the University of Florida’s WRUF radio, Inside the Huddle with Shane, Steve and the HBC promises to be an engaging and fun look behind the scenes of college football. WRUF’s Steve Russell moderates the sports talk as former Gator great Shane Mathews and Coach Spurrier discuss college football highlights from the weekend and what to look forward to in the week ahead.
With segments that include the Coach of the Week, Play of the Week, Question of the Week, and Chalk Talk (where Shane and the HBC break it down on the board), this new live show and podcast will air on WRUF radio in the Gainesville-Ocala, FL market (850 AM/98.1 FM) and worldwide on WRUF’s Facebook page and on WRUF.com.
The hosts:
Steve Spurrier is the only person to be inducted into the college football hall of fame as a player and a coach. Coach Spurrier might not be coaching ball at the moment but he still calls em like he sees em. You can be sure that the HBC doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to the good, the bad, and the ugly of college football.Shane Mathews set records as a Florida Gator quarterback under Coach Spurrier and went on to a successful career in the NFL. The chemistry he has with the Head Ball Coach lends itself to kind of ball talk that every fan loves to be in the middle of.
Steve Russell hosts the longest running sports talk show in the Gainesville area. His love of the game and his insightful commentary is the perfect match for his two co-hosts.
