After completing its lineup revamp with the addition of Dan Sileo to anchor afternoons, the host did not make it to a second week at iHeartMedia Sports “Fox Sports 910” KGME Phoenix.
The Athletic reported last week that the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes, who signed a deal to move their games to KGME for the upcoming season, were not happy with the hiring of Sileo based on comments that led him to be fired from three Florida stations in 2012 and 2013.
The Coyotes released the following statement to The Athletic regarding Sileo:
When we became aware that Fox Sports 910 had hired Dan Sileo, we immediately reached out to the station’s management to express our deep concern regarding Mr. Sileo’s abhorrent comments. Our promotion of inclusivity is deeply rooted into the fabric of who we are as an organization and we have no tolerance for racism, sexism, anti-Semitism or any other discriminatory behavior.
While KGME’s website has Fox Sports Radio’s “The Odd Couple w/ Chris Broussard & Rob Parker” listed in Sileo’s 4-7pm timeslot, the station aired a replay of Jody Oehler’s morning show on Monday.
Why did iHeart even bother to hire Dan in the first place? He got fired from KFWN for the same exact reason, that station’s marquee play-by-play attraction wanted nothing to do with him. They had to have known this would happen.
Absolutely ponderous.
The Padres had nothing to do with Sileo’s termination in San Diego. While they weren’t happy that Entercom hired Sileo, they were heavily involved in the quick cancellation of Kevin Klein’s morning show and the flip away from Hot Talk but not his firing.
True. While the Padres wouldn’t allow anyone on their payroll on the Sileo show, I suspect that his ratings performance is what did him in at The Fan.
Even in the hallways at iHeart Phoenix nobody is talking, so I would presume that there are negotiations of some sort still going on.
The program director is probably on the hot seat now. Your refreshed lineup blows up in your face, what do you do now?
