Entercom Hot AC “Star 102.5” WTSS Buffalo has cut ties with midday host Roger Christian after 43 years with the station through multiple identities, formats and owners.
Christian joined then “Rock 102” WBEN-FM in 1976 as Music Director and would eventually rise to PD/morning host. In 1987 the station became “Majic 102” WMJQ where he would move to middays and return to the MD role. WMJQ would evolve to CHR and eventually Hot AC as “Q102” before taking on its current “Star 102.5” and WTSS call letters upon Entercom’s acquisition in 2000. He began his radio career while in high school at 103.3 WYSL-FM in 1964 and also worked at 1400 WYSL and 96.9 WGRQ prior to coming to 102.5.
Christian told the Buffalo News, “I was a little shocked, but I just know that it’s the nature of the business now.”
You would think after 43 years, WTSS would give this man a much better send off. I do not care if this is the nature of the business. Loyalty shouldn’t matter way more than profits do.
