iHeartMedia Washington DC has appointed Dustin Matthews as Director of Rock Programming overseeing Classic Rock “Big 100.3” WBIG-FM and Alternative “DC101” WWDC.
Matthews comes to Washington after just six months in Charlotte programming Alternative “106.5 The End” WEND Salisbury. He previously served as Director of Alternative Programming for iHeartMedia’s St. Louis region where has programmed “Alt 104.9” KLLT Columbia IL/St. Louis and “Alt 106.3” KDXA Ankeny/Des Moines since 2016. He has previously programmed “XL 102.1” WRXL Richmond and held programming and on-air roles at 101.7 WFNX Boston, 106.1 WFXH Savannah, 101.1 WDYL-FM Richmond, and 94.3 WNFZ and 103.5 WIMZ Knoxville using the on-air name ‘Fletcher’.
Matthews fills the position held by Mike Killabrew from April until his announced move back to Indianapolis as of January 1.
iHeartMedia announced today that Dustin Matthews has been named Director of Rock Programming for BIG 100, Washington’s Classic Rock Radio Station, and DC101, DC’s Alternative Rock Radio Station, effective January 13, 2020. iHeartMedia Washington, D.C. has a strong cross-platform presence and includes a number of iconic brands and franchises — both broadcast and digital — encompassing more than six stations comprised of music, talk and news formats.
iHeartMedia has the leading consumer reach and influence across multiple platforms and delivers more live programming than any other media company. As Director of Rock Programming for BIG 100 and DC101, Matthews will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day programing operations for the station’s music, on-air personalities, programming, promotions and digital operations. He will report to Jeff Kapugi, Region Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia Washington, D.C. and iHeartMedia Baltimore.

Matthews joins the Washington, D.C. region from iHeartMedia Charlotte where he most recently served as program director and afternoon drive host for 106.5 The End. He also served as the director of Alternative Rock programming for iHeartMedia St. Louis. Throughout his career, Matthews has held several programming roles for various stations including ALT 104.9 in St. Louis, Missouri; ALT 106.3 in Des Moines, Iowa; WRXL-FM in Richmond, Virginia; and WFNX-FM in Boston, Massachusetts. He began his career at WIMZ-FM in Knoxville, Tennessee.
