Nielsen begins its monthly release of PPM ratings with today’s Day 1 update including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston/Galveston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Long Island, Riverside/San Bernardino, San Jose, and Middlesex/Somerset/Union.
All the numbers can be found at RadioInsight.com/Ratings.
Among the highlights for the monthly:
- As usual the Holiday monthly is dominated by the stations playing non-stop Christmas music with Entercom AC “B101.1” WBEB Philadelphia holding the highest share at 18.6. That number is up from its 16.6 in 2018 and 17.0 in 2017. Ratings expert Chris Huff notes that no Philadelphia station has had higher than an 18 share since 1967!
- iHeartMedia AC “Star 102.1” KDGE Dallas held the biggest year-to-year gain with a 10.3 share compared to its 7.1 in 2018 and 6.4 in 2017. The gain was helped by Entercom Classic Hits 98.7 KLUV not going Christmas this year. In 2018 KLUV had a 6.1 share in the Holiday book compared to its 4.0 this year.
- With KLUV not going all-Christmas, Salem Media Christian AC 94.1 KLTY solidified its place as the other Holiday station in the market with a 6.9 share. KLTY had a 4.6 share in Holiday 2018.
- The biggest year-to-year decline goes to Salem Media’s “104.7 The Fish” WFSH-FM as it gained a new Christmas Music competitor in Entercom Hot AC “Star 94.1” WSTR-FM. WFSH rose to #2 in the Atlanta market this year with a 6.7 share, but off from its market leading 8.6 in 2018 and 8.5 in 2017. Cox Media Group News/Talk 750 WSB/95.5 WSBB remained in the lead but down 9.1 – 8.0 from last month.
- The monthlong move at WSTR-FM to Christmas music helped it rise from a 2.4 share in the December monthly to 4.3 in the Holiday
- iHeartMedia AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW had a 13.3 share up from 12.5 in 2018 and 13.1 in 2017.
- Also at a 13.7 share was iHeartMedia AC 103.5 KOST Los Angeles giving it a nice jump from 13.0 in 2018 and 12.0 in 2017. Huff notes that the 13.7 is a station record for KOST.
- iHeartMedia AC “93.9 Lite-FM” WLIT Chicago continues the trifecta of the company’s stations in the top three markets leading with an identical 13.7 share. WLIT had a 13.3 share in 2018 and 12.4 in 2017.
- Bonneville AC 96.5 KOIT San Francisco registered a 10.7 share this year identical to 2018 and up from 9.2 in 2017.
- iHeartMedia AC “Sunny 99.1” KODA Houston was down year-to-year-year as it registered an 11.6 share as opposed to 12.1 in 2018 and 12.5 in 2017.
- One of the rare Holiday book big jumps for another format comes from Spanish Broadcasting Systems’ Tropical “Mega 97.9” WSKQ New York, with its three month trend of 4.7 – 5.1 – 6.6.
