Among the highlights for the monthly:
- With the holiday season over, normality reigns throughout the biggest markets, while some of the all-Christmas stations retained many of their seasonal listeners to rise to above where they were prior to the start of Christmas music.
- Taking it a step further, Salem Christian AC 94.9 KLTY Dallas grew beyond its Christmas music fueled 5.3 – 6.9 rise to set what ratings expert Chris Huff notes is a new station record with a 7.3 share. That pulls KLTY well ahead of the usual Dallas market leader, iHeartMedia CHR “106.1 Kiss-FM” KHKS, which settles into second with a 5.9.
- Cumulus’ Country duo of “New Country 96.3” KSCS and “99.5 The Wolf” KPLX take the next two spots with a 4.4 – 5.2 gain at KSCS and 3.9 to 4.7 at KPLX. iHeartMedia AC “Star 102.1” KDGE Dallas rounds out the top 5 with a 10.3 to 4.4 slide.
- The iHeartMedia AC’s in the top three markets continue to hold their market leads. “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW New York’s 8.0 share gives it a 2 share point lead over second ranked Spanish Tropical “Mega 97.9” WSKQ’s 6.0. Mediaco R&B 107.5 WBLS and Entercom Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM tie for third at 5.0.
- The top three remain the same in Los Angeles with iHeartMedia AC 103.5 KOST leading with a 6.5, Entercom Classic Hits 101.1 KRTH second at 5.3 and iHeartMedia Hot AC “104.3 My-FM” KBIG at 4.8.
- iHeartMedia AC “93.9 Lite-FM” WLIT Chicago holds its Christmas music gained lead by a 5.5 to 5.4 share margin over Entercom News 780 WBBM/105.9 WCFS. Trailing right behind is Hubbard Classic Rock “97.1 The Drive” WDRV at 5.3 and iHeartMedia R&B “V103” 102.7 WVAZ at 5.3.
- Hubbard Hot AC “101.9 The Mix” WTMX makes a big post-Christmas rebound up to fifth with a 3.3 to 4.9 gain.
- Thanks to the 49ers Super Bowl run, spoken word takes the top three spots in San Francisco. Entercom News 740 KCBS/106.9 KFRC retakes the lead with a 7.7 to 8.4 gain. Public News/Talk 89.3 KQED rebounds to second with a 6.3 to 7.5 rise, while Cumulus’ 49ers flagship Sports 680 KNBR/104.5 KNBR-FM rises 3.7 to 4.8 for third.
- There was no post-Christmas bump for Entercom Hot AC “Star 94.1” WSTR-FM Atlanta, which slid from its Christmas music fueled 4.3 share back down to a 2.6. In December prior to the start of Christmas music the station held a 2.4 share.
- Cox Media Group News/Talk 750 WSB/95.5 WSBB Atlanta retained its market lead but jumped from an 8.0 to 10.0.
- iHeartMedia AC “Sunny 99.1” KODA Houston remains in the lead with a 7.0, up considerably from its 5.8 back in November. Univision Regional Mexican “Qué Buena 102.9” KLTN rises to second with a 5.7 to 6.6 gain, with Cox Classic Rock “107.5/106.9 The Eagle” KGLK/KHPT in third with a 5.6 to 6.1 gain.
- Radio One R&B “Majic 102.1” KMJQ Houston falls to fourth with a three month downward trend of 7.1 – 6.1 – 5.5.
- The morning show change at Radio One Hip Hop “97.9 The Box” KBXX leads to a 4.4 to 3.5 slide.
- Entercom Sports 94.1 WIP Philadelphia returns to the lead with a 7.3 to 7.8 gain. iHeartMedia R&B 105.3 WDAS-FM follows at 6.6. Beasley Rock 93.3 WMMR is up nearly two shares 4.6 to 6.4 for third with sister Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK rebounding 5.5 to 6.2 for fourth. Entercom AC “B101.1” WBEB follows up its 18.6 Holiday share with a fall to fifth and a 6.1.
