MyTown Media has flipped 1550 KRZD/107.5 K298CI Springfield MO from Branson Travelers Information to Rock “Z107.5“.
The new format is focusing on Rock from the 1980s and 90s placing it musically between Mid-West Family Broadcasting Rock “Q102.1” KQRA and a pair of Classic Rock stations in the market: iHeartMedia’s “US97” 97.3 KXUS and Mid-West Family’s “104.7 The Cave” KKLH.
Pretty sure the station hadn’t been airing tourist info for awhile. The last time I checked it out, last summer, KRZD 1550 and 107.5 were simulcasting sister KWXD 103.5 out of the Joplin area. KRZD was barely audible in downtown Springfield despite the transmitter being located just a few miles away at Kansas and Grand. I’m guessing it was running at greatly reduced power.
She probably wouldn’t want me saying it, but my mother used to love that tourist info format on 1550. She thought the comedy bits were so bad and cheesy that they were entertaining, though pretty much everything aired on a loop.
Kent,
You are correct. It has been airing KWXD Pittsburg for about a year now. It recently gained it’s own identity. A few corrections to the post: the stations is airing a 90’s “grunge, rock & alt” format. No 80’s tracks are being played. Also, Springfield’s US97 is KXUS 97.3, rather than 96.9 KKUS. KRZD – K298CI is running a very low signal strength. It tends to go off air every time it rains. It has been commercial free only until the last few days.
