One day after placing afternoon host Grant Napear on administrative leave after making insensitive comments about the Black Lives Matter movement in a tweet to former Sacramento Kings Center DeMarcus ‘Boogie’ Cousins, Bonneville Sports 1140 KHTK Sacramento has cut ties with afternoon host Grant Napear.
Napear also resigned as the play-by-play voice of the Kings for NBC Sports California. He had called Kings games on either television or radio since 1988 and had been a part of KHTK’s lineup in various roles since 1997. His co-host, former Kings player Doug Christie remains in afternoons. Christie also called Kings games with Napear.
Napear did make attempts to apologize for his comments yesterday, but it was not enough for the station with Bonneville stating, “While we appreciate Grant’s positive contributions to KHTK over the years, his recent comments about the Black Lives Matter movement do not reflect the views or values of Bonneville International Corporation. The timing of Grant’s tweet was particularly insensitive. After reviewing the matter carefully, we have made the difficult decision to part ways with Grant.”
