At noon today, Midwest Communications CHR “i92.9” WLMI Grand Ledge/Lansing MI flipped to Classic Rock/Classic Hits “Cruisin’ 92.9“.
The teases for “A Revolution Is Coming” led to the station kicking off its new identity with Beatles “Revolution”. That was followed by Led Zeppelin “Black Dog”, Eagles “Life In The Fast Lane” and Alice Cooper “I’m Eighteen”.
The new format creates a flanker to co-owned Rock “Q106” WJXQ against Townsquare Media’s market leading Classic Rock 94.9 WMMQ.
Original Report 8:00am: Midwest Communications is pulling the plug on CHR “i92.9” WLMI Grand Ledge/Lansing MI at noon today.
The station has been running on-air and online promos teasing that “i92.9” is going away and that “A Revolution Is Coming”. The flip follows the departure of PD/midday host Art ‘Artimis’ Smith, who was told in late June he would be done on July 29 in cuts releated to the pandemic. Smith had joined WLMI in August 2017, months after its April flip from Classic Hits.
In the Spring 2020 Nielsen Audio ratings WLMI fell to a 1.4 share placing it well behind Townsquare Media’s “97.5 Now-FM” WJIM-FM and its 5.5.
The imaging on the new station sounds like garbage, and the old station’s web site is still up.
