Nielsen Audio has released Day 2 of its monthly four day sweep of ratings in PPM markets.
Today’s releases include Washington DC, Boston, Miami, Seattle, Detroit, Phoenix, Minneapolis, San Diego, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Denver, Baltimore, and St. Louis.

The build-up to the 2020 election continued to give boosts to a number of Talkers across the country.
Public News/Talk “CPR News” 90.1 KCFR Denver rises 6.9 to 7.9 for what Huff note’s is the highest share in the history of the station. iHeartMedia Conservative Talk “Freedom 93.7” 760 KDFD rises 3.8 to 4.2, but co-owned News/Talk 850/94.1 KOA slides 2.1 to 1.7.
iHeartMedia Conservative Talk 550 KFYI Phoenix jumps to the top of its market with a 5.8 to 7.5 gain. Huff notes that was the highest share on 550 since it was AC KOY in 1980.
iHeartMedia Conservative Talk 680 WRKO Boston continues its trend up 4.9 – 6.0 – 6.6 moving it to fourth in the market. That is its largest share since Spring 1996.
Cox Media Group Hot Talk “102.5 The Bone” WHPT is the big gainer in Tampa with a 4.6 – 5.1 – 6.2 trend. iHeartMedia News/Talk 970 WFLA holds steady at 3.3, while Public News/Talk 89.7 WUSF trends down 3.7 – 3.2 – 2.4.
Public News/Talk 91.1 KNOW-FM Minneapolis returns to the top of the market for the first time since April with a 7.2 to 7.8 gain. iHeartMedia Conservative Talk 1130 KTLK rises 3.4 to 4.1, while Entercom News/Talk 830 WCCO drops 5.2 to 4.3 following the end of the Minnesota Twins baseball season.
The success at most of the format did not take place in St. Louis. Entercom Conservative Talk “97.1 FM Talk” KFTK-FM dropped 5.5 to 4.9 and Public News/Talk 90.7 KWMU held steady at 2.6. But Entercom News/Talk 1120 KMOX has tumbled 6.7 – 5.2 – 3.9 for what Huff notes is a record low in the history of the station.
Hubbard News 103.5 WTOP continues to lead Washington but falls 10.3 to 9.3. Public News/Talk 88.5 WAMU rebounds to second 6.9 to 8.2, while Cumulus Conservative Talk 105.9 WMAL-FM drops 7.9 to 7.5.
Trending upward in Washington is iHeartMedia AC 97.1 WASH (5.8 – 6.1 – 7.0). The Hip Hop and Adult R&B formats are trending downward. Howard University Adult R&B 96.3 WHUR slides to fourth with an 8.2 – 7.9 – 7.4 move, while Radio One’s “Majic 102.3/92.7” WMMJ/WDCJ has slid 6.4 – 5.7 – 5.1. Radio One’s Hip Hop 93.9 WKYS drops 3.3 to 2.4 this month while Entercom’s 95.5 WPGC is down 2.5 to 2.1. Huff notes that WKYS falls to its lowest share since its Disco era in 1979.
iHeartMedia News 1030 WBZ Boston remains on top with a 7.2 – 7.0 drop. Beasley Classic Hits 105.7 WROR falls 7.2 to 6.9 and iHeart Classic Rock 100.7 WZLX follows with a 5.9 to 6.7 gain. iHeartMedia CHR “Kiss 108” WXKS-FM falls from third to sixth 7.0 to 6.0. Also trending downward is Beasley Country 102.5 WKLB (5.1 – 4.7 – 3.5).
Cox Media Soft AC “Easy 93.1” WFEZ jumps into the Miami market lead with a 6.1 to 7.5 jump. Co-owned Adult R&B “Hot 105” WHQT falls to second despite rising 6.6 to 6.9. Entercom AC “101.5 Lite-FM” WLYF rises to third 5.6 to 6.3.
iHeartMedia 90s Hits “Totally 93.9” WMIA-FM shows its first gain since its July launch moving up 2.1 to 2.7. Moving downward is SBS’s Salsa “Z92.3” WCMQ-FM as it slides 6.5 – 5.3 – 4.6.
Public News/Talk 94.9 KUOW-FM Seattle rises 6.3 to 6.9 to regain the market lead. Bonnevile News/Talk 97.3 KIRO-FM falls to second 7.0 to 6.6. iHeartMedia Classic Rock 102.5 KZOK holds in third at a 6.6.
One of the stations that got hurt the most from Entercom’s restructuring of its Alternative stations was “107.7 The End” KNDD which lost three of its local personalities. Since the cuts KNDD has dropped 3.9 to 3.2 to 2.3.
iHeartMedia Adult R&B “Mix 92.3” WMXD Detroit moves to the top of the market with a 5.2 to 5.9 gain. Beasley Classic Rock 94.7 WCSX falls to second down 5.7 to 5.6. Entercom Sports “97.1 The Ticket” WXYT-FM jumps to third 5.2 to 5.5. Cumulus News/Talk 760 WJR trends up to fourth 3.8 – 4.7 – 5.4.
In its final monthly ahead of its flip to Alternative last week, Entercom Soft AC “98.7 The Breeze” goes out with a 3.4 – 3.7 – 4.3 upward trend.
Trailing KFYI in Phoenix are iHeartMedia’s Country 102.5 KNIX (7.3 – 6.1), AC “99.9 KEZ” KESZ (6.5 to 6.0). While the company holds the top three stations Variety Hits “95.5 The Mountain” KYOT falls 6.1 – 5.4 – 4.9 and Hot AC “Mix 96.9” KMXP drops 3.4 – 2.9 – 2.4.
Public News/Talk 89.5 KPBS-FM leads San Diego at a 7.3 share. Univision Regional Mexican “Que Buena 106.5” KLNV is second with a 6.8 to 6.4 drop and Entercom Classic Hits “98.1 Sunny-FM” KXSN is third 6.2 to 6.3.
LM San Diego Variety Hits “100.7 Big-FM” KFBG jumps 2.9 to 3.8, while the end of the playoff run of the San Diego Padres sees Sports “97.3 The Fan” KWFN fall 2.7 to 1.1.
Cox Media Soft AC 105.5 WDUV remains on top in Tampa with an 8.2 to 7.9 drop. Beasley Classic Hits “Q105” WRBQ jumps 5.1 – 5.9 – 6.6 following the addition of the MJ Morning Show.
While most Hip Hop stations are trending downward, Beasley Rhythmic CHR “Wild 94.1” WLLD Tampa is up 3.5 – 4.3 – 4.6. iHeartMedia’s “95.7 The Beat” WBTP falls 4.6 to 3.5.
Radio One Adult R&B “Magic 95.9” WWIN-FM remains on top with an 8.5 to 8.2 drop. Hearst’s “98 Rock” WIYY is up 6.5 to 6.6 for what Huff notes is its highest share since Summer 1991.
While the spoken word stations struggled in St. Louis, the same couldn’t be said for the top music stations in the market. Hubbard’s 94.7 KSHE remains on top at a 11.7 share. iHeartMedia Classic Hits 103.3 KLOU falls to second 8.5 to 7.9. iHeartMedia Country “93.7 The Bull” KSD-FM surges 4.3 – 7.0 – 7.7 for what Huff notes is the largest share in the history of the facility. Hubbard Variety Hits “106.5 The Arch” WARH trends up 5.7 – 6.4 – 6.9 and co-owned Alternative “105.7 The Point” KPNT jumps up 4.3 to 6.0.
In its final monthly Entercom CHR “Now 96.3” KNOU goes out with a 2.3 share. Adult R&B “95.5 The Lou” WFUN-FM rises 4.3 to 4.8 prior to moving to 96.3.
