Update 12/26: 103.1 WZLO debuted its new format as AAA “103.1 The Loft” at midnight. The move marks a return of AAA to the 103.1 frequency, as it ran the format as WDME until 2009.
Original Report 11/25: The Zone Corporation, owned by author Stephen King, has broken the Liberal Talk/Sports simulcast of “The Pulse” 620 WZON Bangor and 103.1 WZON-FM Dover-Foxcroft, ME.
The FM side has flipped to Christmas Music and is promising “a BIG surprise for after the holidays”. The station has changed call letters from WZON-FM to WZLO. The existing programming remains unchanged on 620.
The two stations have simulcast since January 2010, when 103.1 dropped its AAA format to simulcast what was then an All-Sports format on 620. The pair flipped to Liberal Talk in November 2010, while retaining play-by-play of local high schools and all four of Boston’s professional teams.
In addition to WZON and WZLO, Stephen King owns Classic Rock 100.3 WKIT in the Bangor market.
