After over a month of stunting with its broad mix of music, 99.3 WZAX debuted its new format as Classic Rock “99.3 Rock City” on Monday.
The new format is anchored by the syndicated Free Beer & Hot Wings in mornings. WZAX is attempting to compete against its two Raleigh-Durham market competitors that are heard in the region; “Radio 96.1” WBBB and 100.7 WRDU with a broader mix of music.
Original Report 11/30: First Media Rhythmic Oldies “Jammin 99.3” WZAX Nashville/Rocky Mount, NC has dropped its format and is stunting with a broad mix of music as it prepares to debut a new format in 2015.
Currently branding itself as “99.3 What’s It Gonna Be“, WZAX will debut its new format on Monday, January 5. The station is soliciting listeners to e-mail them with what they think the format will be for a chance at a $500 prize. WZAX is part of a First Media cluster including Urban “Power 95.5” WPWZ Pinetops, Country “98.5 The Big Dawg” Rocky Mount and Sports 1490 WRMT Rocky Mount.
