Update 2/20/10: We think this one may be a decoy, but another worth watching is CapitalTalk1009.com, registered this past Monday. Why would you blow up a talk station just to launch a new one?
Update 2/10/10: A pair of domain registrations give us the first indication of the future for 100.9 WKLI. 1009TheBridge.com and AlbanyBridge.com were both registered anonymously on Monday.
Original Report 2/8/10: 590 WROW Albany, NY has dropped its longtime News/Talk format in favor of a simulcast of sister Gold AC “Magic 100.9” WKLI. Later this Spring 100.9 will launch a new format, while Magic’s format will remain on 590. Three WROW on-air staffers; morning-host Steve VanZandt, news director Heidi Kelly, and producer Tom Rigatti were let go as part of the changes.
this article is a tease. Find out what is happening with the 100.9 format. What internet domains have they registered? Very curious.
WROW has been in trouble ever since Vandenburg signed on with his own station, WGDJ. Not much room in this market for 2 all news/talk stations, not enough listeners.
What is needed is for a brand new company to come in and start cleaning house with some of these formats that are hardly registering on the Arbitron ratings. And, it’s way overdue to get rid of at least 6 of the 8+ religious stations in the area. This listening area is ripe for some new radio. Anyone who has ever listened to radio here knows that the pickings have always been slim.
Nothing has been registered by Pamal for 100.9 so far.
Although WKLI will be moving to AM, 590 has a much larger signal area (especially during the daytime hours) than does 100.9 FM.
Just tooned into 100.9 and they are stunting with “heartbeats” ???. They were supposed to change their format at 10:09 this morning, but by 10:30, were still stunting.
Anybody have any idea what is happening?

People are just outraged, and rightly so.
And, as I write this, the new station still does not have a web site.
