Original Report 10/19: A change is headed to Radio-One Urban AC “Foxy 95.5” WFUN-FM St. Louis.
A number of domains have been registered for use at the station, but only one of the possible brands seems like a likely format for the station. The domains are: AllNewsSTL.com, AllSports955.com, AllSportsSTL.com, HipHop955.com, HipHopSTL.com, NewMagic955.com, NewMagicSTL.com, NewsWatch955.com, NewsWatchSTL.com, OldSchool955.com, OldSchool955.net, OldSchoolSTL.com, and OldSchoolSTL.net.
The “Magic” branded moniker seems unlikely due to Clear Channel’s use of “Majic 104.9” KMJM, WFUN’s current head-to-head Urban AC competitor. We’re not sold on All News due to St. Louis’ market size or Sports due the amount of competitors already in the format. The “Hip-Hop” brand would portend to further changes at sister “Hot 104.1” WHHL. That leaves the Urban Oldies “Old School” format that Radio-One has launched in Dallas and Charlotte.
WFUN-FM is also in process of upgrading its signal in the market. It currently has a CP to move its tower from the northern suburb of Florissant to St. Louis proper. The station will operate with 10.5kW at 155 meters from the tower of WHHL.
