Update 1/3: Curtis Media debuted Urban AC “The New 96.9” WBZJ at 12am. The new format pits the station against Radio-One’s market leading “Foxy 107.1/104.3“.
The “La Ley” Regional Mexican format will continue on 101.1 WZTK, which serves the western portions of the market.
Original Report 12/19: Curtis Media is planning to launch a new AC format in Raleigh, NC.
Job postings on their corporate website have been made for a Program Director and a Morning Show Producer/Anchor.
Curtis Media Group will soon be launching a new contemporary adult station in the country’s 42nd radio market, and we’re seeking an addition to our market-leading audio content team in Raleigh-Durham, NC. The audience opportunity has been painstakingly researched and will benefit from the Curtis Media commitment to local staffing and marketing.
The destination appears to be what is currently Regional Mexican “La Ley 96.9” WYMY Goldsboro. WYMY began simulcasting on 101.1 WZTK Burlington in April to cover Durham and Greensboro.
969TheVoice.com, Fresh969.com, and Magic969.com were registered by Bryce Wilson, the Director of Digital Operations for Curtis Media. No idea yet if the new format will also appear on 101.1 or the recently acquired 103.7 W279BW Roxboro, which has applied to move closer to Durham.
Just debuted touting continuous r&b.
In addition to La Ley staying on 101.1, they’re also inheriting the WYMY calls from 96.9, replacing the WZTK calls that applied to the previous talk format.
