Update 8/13 3:02pm: After ten minutes of stunting with a few Alternative songs, KVIB flipped to Soft AC “95.1 The Oasis” at 12pm today.
The new format takes dead aim at Clear Channel AC “99.9 KEZ” KESZ and CBS Classic Hits 94.5 KOOL. Those points were hammered in by the station’s choice of Little River Band’s “Cool Change” and Eagles “Take It Easy” as the first two songs.
Riviera Broadcasting is pleased to announce the Valley’s newest radio station, 95.1 The Oasis, which made its debut in Phoenix at 12:00 noon MST on Wednesday, August 13, 2014.
95.1 The Oasis is the only place in the Valley to find “Lite and Refreshing” music from artist such as Billy Joel, Madonna, Lionel Richie, Adele, Michael Buble, Kelly Clarkson, Elton John, Whitney Houston, The Eagles, Mariah Carey, and Phil Collins. 95.1 The Oasis promises 55 minutes of music every hour.
“We’re excited to bring this new format to Phoenix, and provide a place to escape the over-hyped, high-energy world we live in today,” said Jose Rodiles, Riviera’s COO. “By playing familiar songs from superstar artists, 95.1 The Oasis will quickly become a favorite in the Valley, not only to the listening audience, but to our advertising partners as well. Many of the songs we will play on The Oasis are not currently being heard anywhere else in Phoenix.”
Locally owned and operated, 95.1 The Oasis will deliver the best Soft Adult Contemporary music in Phoenix. Listeners in Arizona and across the country can enjoy the 95.1 The Oasis experience by streaming live at www.theoasisphoenix.com. Listeners are also encouraged to be a part of the 95.1 The Oasis community on Facebook at www.facebook.com/theoasisphoenix.
Original Report 8/13 2:00pm: A change is on the way to Riviera Broadcasting’s Spanish AC “95.1 Solamente Exitos” KVIB Sun City West/Phoenix.
Riviera has registered a number of domains for the station including 949TheOasis.com, 951TheOasis.com, Alt949Phx.com, Alt95Phx.com, Alt951Phx.com, PhoenixOasis.com, TheOasis949.com, TheOasis951.com, and TheOasisPhoenix.com. 94.9 would refer to K235CB Chandler, a 250 watt translator CP that Riviera acquired last month.
The Oasis brand was previously used in Phoenix in the mid-1990’s at Smooth Jazz 103.5 KOAZ. With Smooth Jazz on the outs as a format we could easily see the brand used for a Soft AC/Oldies format to flank sister Hot AC “Hot 97.5/103.9” KMVA/KEXX against Clear Channel AC “99.9 KEZ” KESZ and CBS Classic Hits 94.5 KOOL. Phoenix is also one of the largest markets remaining without an Alternative Rock station since Riviera flipped 103.9 KEXX in January 2012.
Love the sped up music. Slight pitch shifting. Reminds me of the former WROE and WLTM Appleton/Green Bay back in the 90s.
