My Time In Baltimore?
Written by Lance Venta · August 31, 2007

Another market to watch this Labor Day weekend for a possible format flip is Baltimore. Specifically, Smooth Jazz 104.3 WSMJ.
The Smooth Jazz format has been trending downward in the ratings in Baltimore over the past year, while there is a void in the market for Classic Hits/Oldies since CBS flipped 102.7 WQSR to Variety Hits “Jack” in 2005. With the recent changes at CBS since Dan Mason returned, we’ll speculate that this could be a race between the two companies to cover that niche.
Clear Channel registered My1043.com on Wednesday.
Update 12:30pm: We’ve also located two more domains registered to Clear Channel on Thursday: fresh1043.com and 1043fresh.com. The “Fresh” brand has done wonders in New York to hurt Clear Channel’s WLTW. Could we see the reverse on CBS’ WLIF?

Will someone In the radio world PLEASE take on Radio One and WERQ(92Q)In Baltimore. We do not need another adult urban or classic hits station In Baltimore we need another urban/hip-hop station.I know that It will not happen unless another black company buys a Baltimore station or two,but man It would be nice as a top 25 radio market Baltimore can support two hip-hop stations.
If Clear Channel – Baltimore was smart, they could move Heaven 600 (which was 8th in the market) to FM and take over gospel FM in Baltimore, before Radio One decides to do it. Praise 104.1 (Radio One) has been a big hit in the few short months that has been on the air in DC and if Clear Channel could beat Radio One to the punch, they could have a gold mine on its hands.
