[membership level="2,3"] Is iHeartMedia planning a full-out attack on Entercom's market leading "Eagle 96.9" KSEG Sacramento? iHeart hired Curtiss Johnson, who spent 20 years overseeing KSEG and sister Active Rock 98.5 KRXQ last week to return to the market as SVP/Programming for the market following an 18 month stint in Chicago. Now a number of domains connecting to a former Sacramento Rock brand and others have appeared perhaps pointing to the company's plans in the market. Normally iHeartMedia does not register domains anonymously for station use, however they did just that in San Francisco for Wednesday's launch of "98.1 The Breeze" KISQ and the sheer quantity of domains makes this seem like an internal move. The new Sacramento connected domains point to two possibilities for a stronger Classic Rock presence in the market. 931TheBrew.com, Brew931.com, and TheBrew931.com would indicate dropping the News/Talk simulcast of 1530 KFBK from 93.1 KFBK-FM Pollack Pines, while upgrading the recently launched "107.1 The Brew" from K296GB to the full-powered signal. The other possibility points to resurrecting the defunct KZAP brand that was the market's heritage AOR station on 98.5 from 1968 through its flip to Country in 1992. 937KZAP.com, KZAP937.com, 1011KZAP.com, and KZAP1011.com were registered for potential use by what are now Variety Hits "93.7 Jack-FM" KQJK or Classic Hip-Hop "V101.1" KHYL. The KZAP call letters are currently in use by Mapleton Communications' Classic Hits station in the Chico market. The bigger issue may be 93.3 KZHP-LP Sacramento, which positions itself as "Sacramento's K-ZAP" with a broad freeform Rock presentation. There was also a registration for Jack1071.com for perhaps a move of KQJK's format to K296GB.
iHeart did directly register Star929Online.com for recently acquired Hot AC "92.9 The Boss" KYWY Cheyenne WY. Since closing on the acquisition of 92.9, iHeart moved its KOLT-FM call letters to its new sister 100.7 KOLZ Cheyenne, which brands as "100.7 KOLT-FM".
Anonymous Registrations: 993Now.com, 993NowFM.com, Now993.com, Now993FM.com, 979TheWren.com, 999KissFM.com.
