As first hinted in this morning’s Tom Taylor Now, CBS Radio has moved the WNEW-FM call letters back home to 102.7 in New York.
The WNEW call letters heritage in New York dates back to their use on 1130, 102.7 and TV Channel 5. WNEW-TV became WNYW upon its sale to Fox in 1986 and then 1130 became WBBR when sold to Bloomberg in 1992 and the FM adjusted from WNEW-FM to WNEW until its change to WWFS to match its then-new “Fresh 102.7” identity in January 2007. The calls were then parked on then CBS owned 106.3 in Jupiter FL until moved to 99.1 Bowie MD/Washington DC for its launch of “All News 99.1” in December 2011.
With CBS now leasing 99.1 Bowie to Bloomberg, the company is now moving the WNEW-FM call letters home to New York, while that station becomes WDCH-FM.
No programming changes at either station accompany the new call letters.
