Macon Radio Alliance launched Sports “ESPN Middle Georgia” on a trio of frequencies this morning.
Airing on 93.1 W226BZ Macon/107.1 WFXM-HD4 Gordon, 99.5 W258AP Warner Robins/107.5 WRWR-HD2 Cochran and 1150 WXKO Fort Valley, the trio brings ESPN Radio programming back to Macon for the first time since 1500 WAYS dropped it for CBS Sports Radio when that network launched in 2013. The station will be operated by Bill Shanks, who will also serve as afternoon host for the station. Shanks will continue as a columnist for the Macon Telegraph and most recently hosted afternoons at iHeartMedia’s “Fox Sports 1670” WPLA. Former WPLA morning hosts Russ Brown and Daniel Shirley will host “The Midday SportsZone” from 11am to 1pm. The remainder of the station’s lineup will come from ESPN.
The stations will also serve as the Macon/Warner-Robins affiliates for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.
