The repercussions of a three station swap announced in late September are beginning to be felt in Wilmington, NC as Sunrise Broadcasting announces a frequency shift and rebranding to keep one format in its cluster.
On December 31, Modern Rock “Surf 98.3” WSFM will sign-off as that frequency has been sold to Sea-Comm Media for $825,000. Sea-Comm will move AAA “106.7 The Penguin” WUIN to the 98.3 frequency.
106.7 will flip to an undisclosed Christian format as Carolina Christian Radio acquired that frequency from Sea-Comm in exchange for 1180 WMYT and $150,000.
To replace “Surf 98.3” on January 3rd, Sunrise will flip Regional Mexican “98.7 La Gran D‘ WLGD to “Modern Rock 98.7“. Sunrise GM Brian Schimmel tells the Wilmington Star-News that the new format on 98.7 will be a 90’s centric family-friendly approach to Modern Rock.
Following the sales both Sea-Comm and Sunrise will own 1 AM and 4 FM’s in the Wilmington market. Carolina Christian Radio will have 2 AM’s and 4 FM’s.
Why are u switching that for and it’s already got a rock station in eastern nc and they need to put a adult’s r&b station in wilmington like a kiss station again.
