Clear Channel Classic Hits “Magic 107.3” WJGH Jacksonville has dropped the format and shifts to Variety Hits “107.3 Jack-FM” with the typical Howard Cogan imaging and “Playing What We Want” branding.
WJGH had dismissed its entire programming and local airstaff a few weeks ago during Clear Channel’s most recent round of layoffs. The previous Classic Hits format was 10th ranked in the market in the February PPM’s with a 4.7 share. Listen to the debut of 107.3 Jack-FM on FormatChange.com.
This is the first Jack branded station to be launched by Clear Channel. They had inherited the formats of KQJK Sacramento and WQSR Baltimore when the stations were acquired from CBS in 2008.
The first hour of Jack consisted of:
EMF – Unbelievable
Poison – Nothing But A Good Time
Black Eyed Peas – Let’s Get It Started
Queen – Fat Bottomed Girls
Flock Of Seagulls – I Ran
Sublime – Santeria
Bryan Adams – Summer Of ’69
Wild Cherry – Play That Funky Music
Guns N’ Roses – Sweet Child Of Mine
No Doubt – Just A Girl
Tubes – She’s A Beauty
Prince – Let’s Go Crazy
Lynyrd Skynyrd – Gimme Three Steps
Smash Mouth – Walkin’ On The Sun
Go Go’s – We Got The Beat
Great article, but one small correction: Clear Channel did put Jack FM on in Amarillo on 98.7 KPRF in March 2007. That was a market that Clear Channel was planning to exit, though they didn’t sell their cluster there until October 2007 when Gap Broadcasting purchased it. But that’s a minor point — Clear Channel bringing Jack FM to a PPM market in 2012 speaks volumes about the longevity of the Variety Hits/Adult Hits format (remember when it was called a fad like Rhythmic Oldies circa 2005?) and the strength of the Jack FM brand in particular.
