The Houston Chronicle reports that two Houston market stations have been sold.
Gow Communications, owner of Sports “1560 The Game” KGOW and the Yahoo! Sports Radio Network has signed a letter of intent to acquire “ESPN 97.5” KFNC, while EMF Broadcasting will purchase AAA 103.7 KHJK. Both stations had been owned by Cumulus Media but were spun off into a trust run by Larry Patrick as part of a pre-packaged bankruptcy.
The Chronicle states that Gow will continue to operate KFNC as an ESPN affiliate and attempt to make a run for the radio rights of the NBA’s Houston Rockets. 103.7 will flip to one of EMF’s Christian networks: AC “K-Love” or Christian CHR “Air-1“.
The AR Licensing Trust also possesses two Kansas City stations; CHR “95.7 The Vibe” KCHZ and Urban AC “Magic 107.3” KMJK.
It’ll be a K-Love station. They don’t have a K-Love station in Houston. Now they will. Air 1 is only for smaller stations and translators, except in some smaller cases.
103.7 has strong coverage in Beaumont where there is an Air 1 translator station. The same cannot be said for K-Love
What I wnat to know is how do I listen to my favorite music in Houston then? I’m devastated! I can’t listen to anything else unless I go on the Internet and listen to Alternative music playing in NYC. This turn of events is a real punch in the gut, to say the least.
